Martinez has missed two games due to a quad injury. He was initially scheduled to play Thursday, but was a late scratch. Martinez is hitting .327/.363/.606 over 208 at-bats. 


Manny Machado sits again Friday

Machado has missed four games due to a back injury. Over 258 at-bats, Machado is hitting .267/.317/.422.


Yasiel Puig, Hanley Ramirez back in starting lineup Friday

(6:47 pm ET) Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig and shortstop Hanley Ramirez were both back in the starting lineup Friday night against the Giants in San Francisco. Both players suffered hand injuries over the weekend in St. Louis. Puig missed four games, while Ramirez missed three. 


Bruce Billings outrighted to Triple-A

Billings was designated for assignment a few days ago. He cleared through waivers and accepted an assignment to the minors. 


Joe Panik not in the lineup Friday

(6:22 pm ET) Giants infielder Joe Panik was held out of the starting lineup Friday against the Dodgers because of a sprained ankle. Panik left Tuesday's game with the injury and has been unable to return. He was called up in mid-June and does not receive regular at-bats, so it remains to be seen when he'll return. He batted .213 in just 61 at-bats before the injury this season.

Alberto Callaspo set for Saturday rehab game

(6:17 pm ET) Athletics infielder Alberto Callaspo will play a rehab game Saturday, according to the Bay Area News Group.

Callaspo will play at Class A Stockton. There's a chance he will rejoin the Athletics Sunday. Callaspo is hitting .234/.308/.309 over 282 at-bats. 


Giants make some changes to roster Friday

(6:12 pm ET) The Giants announced several roster moves prior to Friday's series opener against the Dodgers, the Bay Area News Group reports.

the team placed infielders Marco Scutaro (back) and Ehire Adrianza (hamstring) on the 15-day disabled list. To clear a roster spot for the move, the Giants designated infielder Nick Noonan and pitcher Jose De Paula for assignment.

Giants add Dan Uggla, Tony Abreu to active roster

(6:08 pm ET) The Giants called up a pair of infielders from Triple-A Fresno, as Dan Uggla and Tony Abreu were added to the roster Friday.

Uggla was signed by the Giants in recent days after the Braves released him. Uggla was hitting just .162/.241/.231 in 48 games with the Braves, and appeared in just two games with Fresno before getting the call. He is in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Dodgers.

Abreu last appeared in the majors with the Giants last season, when he hit .268 in 52 games. He was hitting .281/.329/.434 in 64 games at Fresno. 


Yonder Alonso, Jedd Gyorko could be back with Padres this weekend

(6:05 pm ET) Padres manager Bud Black told reporters that first baseman Yonder Alonso and second baseman Jedd Gyorko could join the team in Atlanta this weekend, MLB.com reports. Alonso has been sidelined since mid-June with a hand injury, while Gyorko has been sidelined since early June due to a foot injury.

Edwin Jackson's hand not an issue for next start

(6:02 pm ET) Cubs pitcher Edwin Jackson had to leave Thursday's outing due to cramping in his right hand, but the issue is already past him by Friday.

Jackson was pulled in the sixth inning of his start Thursday due to muscle cramping and spasming, but manager Rick Renteria told MLB.com the issue was likely related to hydration. His next start is set for Tuesday against the Rockies at home.
