Yankees' Chase Headley slugs sixth home run Monday

(4:25 pm ET) Yankees third baseman Chase Headley went 3 for 4 with a walk, a home run and three RBI in his team's 14-1 win over the Royals on Monday.

Headley may have been able to improve on his line but was removed for a pinch-runner the final time he made it on base. He opened the offensive explosion with a two-run home run in the first inning after the leadoff hitter got aboard and added an RBI double in the fifth.

Headley has hit .255/.309/.416 with six home runs and 21 RBI in 161 at-bats.


Royals' Jeremy Guthrie hammered for 11 runs vs. Yankees

(4:25 pm ET) Royals pitcher Jeremy Guthrie took the loss on Monday, allowing 11 earned runs on nine hits and three walks in one-plus innings in his team's 14-1 loss to the Yankees.

Guthrie (4-3) hadn't given up more than two runs in any of his last three starts, but he could not keep runners off base or the ball in the park in the first inning, with eight runs scoring on a trio of home runs. He opened the second inning by putting two more guys on base before serving up his fourth home run of the game, which ended his day with just three outs recorded.

Guthrie owns a 6.70 ERA and 19:16 K:BB ratio in 48 1/3 innings. He's slated to face the Cubs in Chicago on Sunday.


Reds 3B Todd Frazier smashes 13th home run of the season

(4:25 pm ET) Reds third baseman Todd Frazier went 1 for 4 at the plate in Cincinnati's 5-4 loss to the Rockies on Monday. 

Frazier did his damage in the first inning when he belted a two-run shot off of Eddie Butler to deep center field, his 13th of the season. Fraizier is now hitting .258 with 26 RBI in 163 at-bats this season.


Mets closer Jeurys Familia earns 14th save of the season

(4:20 pm ET) Mets closer Jeurys Familia worked a nearly perfect ninth inning on Monday in New York's 6-3 win over the Phillies, earning his 14th save of the season.

Familia got the first two outs of the inning on 14 pitches, including a strikeout of Carlos Ruiz. After a throwing error put a man on, Familia closed things up by forcing Ben Revere to lineout to first. Familia lowered his ERA to 1.69 in 21 1/3 innings of work.


Orioles' Steve Pearce smacks fifth homer Monday

(4:20 pm ET) Orioles first baseman Steve Pearce went 1 for 3 with a two-run home run in his team's 4-3 win over the Astros on Monday.

With the Orioles down 3-2, Pearce slugged his fifth homer of the season in the seventh inning to give his team the lead for good. He started the game at first base but was moved to second after shortstop J.J. Hardy came out of the game with back spasms. Pearce has hit .192/.264/.354 with five home runs and 17 RBI in 99 at-bats.


Mets pitcher Bartolo Colon strikes out six in win on Monday

(4:17 pm ET) Mets pitcher Bartolo Colon allowed three runs on six hits in six innings of work in New York's 6-3 win over the Phillies on Monday.

Colon had issues in the third inning when after putting runners on second and third, he gave up an RBI single to Chase Utley, plating both runs. Then in the fifth, Colon gave up a sac fly to Ryan Howard, bringing home another run.

Colon, now 7-3, moved his ERA to 4.82 in 61 2/3 innings of work. He will look to keep things rolling Sunday against the Marlins.


Phillies pitcher Severino Gonzalez strikes out eight in no-decision

(4:17 pm ET) Phillies pitcher Severino Gonzalez allowed three runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings of work in Philadelphia's 6-3 loss to the Mets on Monday, but did not factor into a decision. 

Gonzalez had issues in the first inning when he allowed an RBI single to Daniel Murphy with two men on. Then in the third, Gonzalez gave up a solo home run to Lucas Duda. Gonzalez gave up a second home run in the fourth to Michael Cuddyer to lead off the inning. 

Gonzalez, who remains 2-1, had eight strikeouts with no walks in the contest. Gonzalez, who now owns a 6.88 ERA, will look to bounce back on Sunday against the Rockies. 


Orioles' Caleb Joseph slugs fourth home run Monday

(4:16 pm ET) Orioles catcher Caleb Joseph went 1 for 3 with a two-run home run in his team's 4-3 win over the Astros on Monday.

Joseph opened the scoring with his two-run blast in the second inning, his first home run since May 7. He has hit .270/.359/.441 with four home runs and 18 RBI in 111 at-bats.


Tigers RP Bruce Rondon to make rehab appearance Tuesday

(4:16 pm ET) Tigers reliever Bruce Rondon will make another rehab appearance Tuesday in Triple-A, manager Brad Ausmus told the Detroit Free-Press. Rondon, who has not pitched in 2015 due to a biceps injury, is strengthening his arm in the hopes of returning to the Detroit bullpen.

One more hurdle for Rondon will be throwing on back-to-back nights, and right now, the plan is to have the reliever pitch on Friday and Saturday after two days off. 


Rockies 3B Nolan Arenado blasts ninth home run of the year

(4:16 pm ET) Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado went 3 for 4 at the plate in Colorado's 5-4 win over the Reds on Monday.

Arenado started things off in the first when he ripped an RBI single to left field. Then in the fourth, Arenado blasted a solo shot to deep left center field off of Jason Marquis, his ninth of the season.

Arenado is now hitting .287 with 28 RBI in 157 at-bats this season.
