Jim Adduci in, Mitch Moreland out of Friday lineup
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(5:53 pm ET) The absence of Mitch Moreland in the lineup Friday against the White Sox in favor of Jim Adduci is the result of Ron Washington simply yearning to give the latter his first start of the season for the Rangers rather than dissatisfaction with the former

"His at-bats have been excellent," Washington told the Dallas Morning News about Moreland. "I've been putting getting Adduci in there and I need to do it."

Moreland has reached base five times in the last two games and is batting .279 on the season.

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(5:49 pm ET) The Brewers have signed former Blue Jays reliever Jeremy Jeffress on Friday, MLB.com reports. Jeffress, a former first round pick by the Brewers in 2006, owned a 10.80 ERA over 3 1/3 innings pitched for Triple-A Buffalo.

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(5:46 pm ET) Mariners pitcher Brandon Maurer will start Sunday's series finale against the Marlins in Miami, manager Lloyd McClendon told the Tacoma News Tribune on Friday.

Conor Gillaspie gets day off against Rangers lefty
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(5:43 pm ET) A matchup against Texas left-hander Martin Perez has White Sox third baseman Conor Gillaspie out of the lineup Friday night.

Gillaspie has not shown signs of impotence against southpaws this season with four hits in 14 at-bats. He has been one of the steadiest producers in the American League with just one hitless game and owns an impressive stat line of .314/.362/.392.

Report: Manny Machado rehab stint could start next week
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(5:34 pm ET) Orioles third baseman Manny Machado could begin a minor league rehab assignment next week, according to MLB.com.

Buck Showalter said, however, that it will likely not begin until some point after the team begins a series in Toronto next Tuesday.

Machado has been sidelined since sustaining a serious knee injury at the end of last season.

Friday drills to determine if Adam Lind destined for DL
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(5:28 pm ET) Blue Jays first baseman Adam Lind is scheduled for several drills Friday that will play a huge role in determining if he will be placed on the disabled list with a back problem.

Lind has stated that his back feels better, but if discomfort that would prevent him from playing remains, he will soon be on the DL.

John Gibbons stated that a decision must be made quickly in regard to Lind, who will have missed the last three games after being sidelined in the opener against Cleveland.

Coco Crisp returns to lineup Friday for Athletics
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(5:22 pm ET) Athletics center fielder Coco Crisp is back at his familiar spot at the top of the lineup Friday after missing three games with a hamstring injury.

Crisp had been his typically productive self before going down. He owns a stat line of .292/.455/.500.

Michael Cuddyer sits out series opener vs. Phillies
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(5:19 pm ET) Rockies outfielder Michael Cuddyer was held out of the starting lineup for Friday's contest against the Phillies, the team announced.

Cuddyer left Thursday's game against the Padres in the seventh inning due to cramping in his left hamstring. He is hitting .317 with three home runs and 10 RBI in 60 at-bats.

MRI comes back clean for Carlos Beltran
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(5:15 pm ET) Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran underwent MRIs on his shoulder and wrist, all of which came back clean, the New York Daily News reports.

Beltran will be out of the starting lineup Friday against Tampa Bay after taking a tumble over the wall at Tropicana Field on Thursday. He remains hopeful of returning to the starting lineup Saturday.

Beltran is batting .298 with four home runs and nine RBI over 57 at-bats.

Will Middlebrooks slated to start rehab work next week
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(5:11 pm ET) Red Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks is scheduled to start a minor-league rehab assignment at some point in the middle of next week, The Providence Journal reports on Friday. The team has not announced a specific date and minor-league affiliate for his rehab work.

Middlebrooks played just four games this season before being placed on the disabled list with a calf injury. He went 3 of 13 with one home run before the injury.
