Stephen Vogt slugs third home run Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(1:53 am ET) Athletics catcher Stephen Vogt went 2 for 2 with a walk and a solo home run in his team's 5-2 loss to the Giants Wednesday.

Vogt made his third start at first base in the game and extended his hitting streak to nine games. He has hit .366/.394/.538 with three home runs and 13 RBI in 93 at-bats. If Vogt continues to post elite numbers at the plate, the team could decide to give him more action at first base in an attempt to play both hot-hitting catchers at one.

Ehire Adrianza rejoins Giants Thursday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(1:49 am ET) Giants infielder Ehire Adrianza was activated from the disabled list after Wednesday's game.

Adrianza, who takes the roster spot of Juan Perez, had been sidelined since June 21 while recovering from a hamstring strain. He returns to a .213/.259/.267 line in 75 at-bats.

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(1:47 am ET) The Giants optioned outfielder Juan Perez to Triple-A Fresno after Wednesday's game.

Perez served as a defensive replacement Wednesday but didn't record an at-bat. He has hit .156/.208/.267 with one home run in 45 at-bats with the Giants.

Mariners recall Lucas Luetge from Triple-A

(1:45 am ET) The Mariners recalled pitcher Lucas Luetge from Triple-A Tacoma after Wednesday's game.

Stephen Pryor sent down after Wednesday's game
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(1:44 am ET) Mariners pitcher Stephen Pryor was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma after Wednesday's game.

Pryor was just recalled earlier Wednesday and pitched 1 2/3 innings in his team's loss, giving up one unearned run on one hit and two walks while striking out one. It was his first appearance of the season for the major-league team.

Jason Hammel feels fine after thumb cramp Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(1:41 am ET) Athletics pitcher Jason Hammel said after Wednesday's game that his thumb felt fine after being looked at by a trainer during the game, MLB.com reports.

Hammel said that his thumb just cramped up and that it was the first time it had ever happened to him. He went on to finish the fifth inning after being visited by the trainer but didn't come out for the sixth with 99 pitches already in the bank. The minor issue shouldn't affect his availability moving forward.

Hunter Pence homers, steals base Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(1:38 am ET) Giants outfielder Hunter Pence went 2 for 5 with a home run, two RBI and a stolen base in his team's 5-2 win over the A's Wednesday.

Pence smacked a solo home in the fourth inning and added another RBi on an infield single in the sixth. It was the fourth time in his last five games that Pence recorded multiple hits, though the home run was his first since June 21. He has hit .302/.361/.478 with 12 home runs, 33 RBI and eight stolen bases in 364 at-bats.

Carlos Beltran diagnosed with two fractured facial bones
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(1:35 am ET) Yankees designated hitter Carlos Beltran has been diagnosed with two fractured bones after being struck on the face by a batted ball during batting practice, the Star-Ledger reports.

One of the fractures was on the right side of the face above the nose, while the other is just below the nose. Doctors were also worried he may have suffered a concussion after a batted ball carommed off a protective screen and onto the bridge of his nose.

"The fracture is something that's going to get better and it's not going to affect me for the rest of my life," Beltran said. "And the concussion — I got hit in the face. They want to make sure — hopefully tomorrow I wake up feeling better. No headache, less symptoms than today."

Roenis Elias hammered in loss vs. Twins Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(1:25 am ET) Mariners pitcher Roenis Elias struggled in a loss Wednesday, giving up seven runs (six earned) on seven hits and three walks in 3 1/3 innings while striking out three in his team's 8-1 defeat against the Twins.

Elias (7-8) has now lost three straight starts while giving up 16 earned runs in 14 1/3 innings during the poor stretch. He's a candidate to lose his rotation spot coming out of the break if he can't get his production turned around quickly. Elias owns a 4.54 ERA and 96:40 K:BB ratio in 113 innings.

Kyle Gibson tosses six scoreless innings in win Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(1:24 am ET) Twins pitcher Kyle Gibson earned a win Wednesday, surrendering seven hits and one walk in six scoreless innings while striking out three in his team's 8-1 victory over the Mariners.

Gibson (8-7) was removed after six innings despite throwing just 91 pitches and having an eight-run lead with which to work. He's delivered scoreless outings in five of his last nine starts. Gibson owns a 3.92 ERA and 53:29 K:BB ratio in 101 innings going into the All-Star break.
