Tigers pitcher Joe Nathan throws bullpen Saturday
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(7:58 pm ET) Tigers pitcher Joe Nathan was able to throw a 15-pitch bullpen session Saturday for the first time since landing on the disabled-list, reports MLive.com.

"I planned on just long tossing, but I felt awesome," Nathan said. "(Pitching coach Jeff Jones) might had a plan but I didn't know about it. But I said, 'Let's do it.'"

Nathan, who has been on the DL with a right elbow flexor strain since April 7, is eligible to be activated Wednesday. He is expected to throw a full bullpen session Monday.

"I'm eligible, but I don't want to speculate on what we're going to do." he said. "I assume they would want me to get some game action to make sure (I'm ready)."

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus to 'be careful' with Victor Martinez
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(7:55 pm ET) Tigers manager Brad Ausmus knows there is a long season ahead. That's why the skipper wants to "be careful" with designated hitter Victor Martinez and his knee injury, reports MLive.com.

"It's the knee on the load-side of his body when he's hitting left-handed," Ausmus said. "Right-handed, it's not (a problem). It doesn't bother him as much."

Martinez is only two months removed from undergoing surgery on his knee.

"I think he can face right-handed pitchers," Ausmus said. "But it's something we want to keep an eye on."

Kris Bryant reaches base five times in second game with Cubs
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(7:45 pm ET) Prized Cubs prospect Kris Bryant didn't tear the cover off the ball Saturday against San Diego, but he did manage a broken-bat single for the first hit of his career in the fifth inning. And he did see the fans give him a standing ovation for it.

Bryant finished 2-for-3 with three walks, a far cry from his hitless, three-strikeout effort Friday in his major league debut. He also committed his first error, allowing a Wil Myers bouncer kick off his glove to open the game.

O's Chris Davis provides insurance homer in ninth inning on Saturday
by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer
(7:40 pm ET) Designated hitter Chris Davis' two-run homer in the ninth inning, an opposite-field shot, on Saturday provided the Orioles some breathing room in their 4-1 win over the Red Sox.

The homer was just Davis' second this season as the slugger has accumulated 18 strikeouts in 10 games.

Orioles closer Zach Britton throws perfect ninth to collect fourth save
by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer
(7:38 pm ET) Orioles closer Zach Britton pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning, striking out two, Saturday against the Red Sox to pick up his fourth save of the season.

Athletics pitcher Sean Nolin to throw extended spring training Monday
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(7:37 pm ET) Athletics pitcehr Sean Nolin is scheduled to throw in an extended spring training game Monday while recovering from sports hernia surgery, reports CSNBayArea.com.

Nolin, who is currently on the 15-day DL with the injury, has also thrown a simulated game as he recovers from the surgery. Nolin has appeared in just two games in the last two seasons, allowing seven runs in 2 1/3 innings of work.

Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz allows two runs but gets stuck with loss
by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer
(7:36 pm ET) Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz (1-2) gave up 11 hits in six innings but only yielded two runs Saturday, suffering the loss to the Orioles.

Buchholz notched seven strikeouts in the loss.

Buchholz looks to even up his record Thursday in Tampa Bay.

Orioles starter Chris Tillman allows one run in 5 1/3 IP for victory
by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer
(7:34 pm ET) Orioles starter Chris Tillman (2-1) allowed one earned run on six hits and stuck out five in 5 1/3 innings Saturday to earn the win against the Red Sox.

The one run allowed came via Tillman's fielding error in the sixth inning.

Tillman's next start is set for Thursday in Toronto.

Nationals outfielder Denard Span may be activated Sunday
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(7:26 pm ET) Nationals outfielder Denard Span is back with the team after undergoing surgery on a right core muscle in March and may be activated Sunday, reports the Washington Post.

Manager Matt Williams said it's a possibility Span is activated Sunday, but it depends on how he feels.

"I mean, physically like I said I'm fine," Span said. "I played two games in a row, a little fatigued, but the only way that's gonna get better is by playing games and getting back there every day. Early in season, I think everybody's got a little bit of fatigue, it takes time to get in the swing of the season, but I feel fine."

Span played in back-to-back games Thursday and Friday for Washington's minor league team in Hagerstown.

Dodgers pitcher Kenley Jansen throws off the mound Saturday
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(7:20 pm ET) Dodgers pitcher Kenley Jansen was able to throw off the mound Saturday for the first time since foot surgery, reports the L.A. Times.

Jansen, who is currently on the 15-day DL with the foot injury, is pain free and still targeting a return to the big leagues some time in May.

"Really good day for me today," Jansen said. "Body's in shape, arm's in shape."

Jansen posted a 2-3 record with 44 saves and a 2.76 ERA in 65 1/3 innings of work in 2014.
