by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(5:28 pm ET) Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli has returned to the lineup for the Thursday game against the White Sox after being inactive since injuring his firger Tuesday.

Napoli had begun to emerge from a mini-slump with three hits, including a home run, in two games after experiencing a 1-for-13 slide.

Joe Nathan finally collects second save
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(5:28 pm ET) Just 12 days removed from his first save, Tigers closer Joe Nathan slammed the door shut on the Indians Thursday afternoon for his second save of the season.

Nathan entered the game in the ninth and forced Mike Aviles to foul out, followed by a Carlos Santana strikeout and a Michael Brantley fly out to end the game, securing a 7-5 victory. The right-hander has not allowed a run over his last five innings pitched. He owns a 7.94 ERA and 1.94 WHIP along with 4:4 K:BB ratio over 5 2/3 innings pitched.

Justin Verlander walks four in five innings, escapes with win No. 2
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(5:20 pm ET) Tigers starting pitcher Justin Verlander showed some command issues and issued for walks on Thursday. However, he still managed to escape with his second win of the season in a 7-5 victory over Cleveland.

Making his fourth start of the season, Verlander (2-1) permitted a run-scoring single to David Murphy in the fourth and a two-run single to Michael Brantley in the following frame. He surrendered three unearned runs on six hits and four walks while striking out seven over five innings. He tossed 113 pitches, 74 of which came for strikes.

Verlander has struck out at least seven in each of his last two starts. He owns a 2.08 ERA and 1.35 WHIP along with 20:10 K:BB ratio over 26 innings. He'll make his next start Tuesday at home against the White Sox.

Eric Young on extended tear for Mets
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(5:16 pm ET) Mets leadoff hitter Eric Young has broken free from an early-season slump in style and with consistency. He opened the year 0 for 15 but is since batting .350 with 14 hits in 40 at-bats. He also has six hits in his last three games.

The result has been many trips down the third-base line to home plate. Young has scored 12 runs in the last eight games. He is tied for the National League lead in that department.

Danny Salazar roughed up again Thursday
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(5:14 pm ET) Indians starting pitcher Danny Salazar had another rough outing and was charged with his second loss of the season Thursday afternoon against the Tigers.

Salazar (0-2) surrendered a three-run home run to Ian Kinsler in the fifth inning and a run-scoring single to Kinsler again in the following frame. He was charged with five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out three over 4 2/3 innings in a 7-5 defeat.

Salazar has allowed three homers and 10 runs over his last two starts. His ERA has ballooned from 3.18 to 7.71 over that span. He'll be searching for his first win of the season Tuesday against Kansas City.

Ryan Braun returns to lineup Thursday after day off
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(5:00 pm ET) Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun received one game off Wednesday to rest his ailing thumb, but is back in the lineup Thursday as his team plays in Pittsburgh.

Braun has struggled with the thumb, which in turn has limited his power this season. Aside from a three-homer, seven-RBI game in Philadelphia on April 8, he is batting .243 with no home runs and just three RBI.

Cut on thumb continues to be non-issue for Yu Darvish
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(4:59 pm ET) Rangers starting pitcher Yu Darvish had an issue with a cut on his right thumb for the second straight start Wednesday against the Mariners. However, manager Ron Washington said it's not an issue, per MLB.com.

Darvish has posted a 1.20 ERA and 0.73 WHIP in his last two starts. He has 17 strikeouts to three walks in 15 innings in those starts.

Colby Rasmus picks up two hits Thursday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(4:56 pm ET) Blue Jays outfielder Colby Rasmus picked up two hits Thursday against the Twins.

Rasmus was one of the only bright spots for Toronto. The team was shut out by pitcher Kyle Gibson. Rasmus, along with Josh Thole, were the only two Blue Jays to collect two hits during the game. Rasmus had to serve as the designated hitter as he was working his way back from a hamstring injury.

Matt Harrison, Rangers GM differ on return timetable
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(4:52 pm ET) Rangers starting pitcher Matt Harrison (back) is hopeful to make his return from the 15-day disabled list after his next rehab start Saturday for Double-A Frisco. Harrison is expected to throw 95 pitches Saturday.

"I have to get more than 3 1/3 innings," Harrison said. "I know I'm close."

However, general manager Jon Daniels seems to think Harrison is going to need more time on his rehab assignment.

"There's not a set deadline," Daniels said. "I'm expecting him to make two more starts."

Rangers hopeful two injured players are back in June
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(4:48 pm ET) Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said Thursday he's hopeful second baseman Jurickson Profar (shoulder) and catcher Geovany Soto (knee) will make earlier than expected returns from the disabled list.

"We're hoping to get [Jurickson] Profar and Soto back in June," Daniels said, per MLB.com.
