Ian Kinsler racks up season-high four RBI against Indians
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(5:50 pm ET) Tigers second baseman and leadoff hitter Ian Kinsler turned a 3-1 deficit into a 4-3 lead with one swing of the bat Thursday against Indians right-hander Danny Salazar.

The three-run homer in the fifth inning put his team up to stay and allowed Justin Verlander to earn the victory. He added an RBI single in the sixth.

Kinsler has been consistent and productive since the opening bell. He has seven multi-hit games and boasts a slugging percentage of .519.

Manny Machado will play 3-5 extended spring games after Friday
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(5:49 pm ET) Orioles third baseman Manny Machado is scheduled to start sliding on Friday, the first time since having knee surgery, MASN Sports reports. He will then begin playing approximately 3-5 extended spring training games before starting a minor-league rehab assignment.

Machado already has 17 at-bats in simulated games during his recovery and is expected to need the full 20 days on his minor-league rehab assignment, according to the report.

Michael Brantley drives in four for Indians in Motown
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(5:40 pm ET) Left fielder Michael Brantley was pretty much the entire offense for the Indians in Detroit on Thursday. In the process, he snuck into third among the American League RBI leaders with 14.

Brantley drove a two-run single to right off Justin Verlander in the fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie and slammed a two-run homer in the seventh to chop the deficit to 6-5.

It was his first multi-hit game since April 6, but he still owns a respectable stat line of .275/.362/.392.

Ji-Man Choi hit with 50-game PED suspension
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(5:39 pm ET) Mariners minor-league first baseman Ji-Man Choi was slapped with a 50-game suspension on Thursday after testing positive for methandienone, a performance-enhancing substance, MLB.com reports. He was placed on the restricted list for the duration of his suspension.

"A banned substance was detected in my urine sample," Choi said, per the Tacoma News Tribune. "I do not know what I could have taken that caused me to test positive. I have not and never would knowingly use anything illegal to enhance my performance."

Anthony Gose called up for twinbill
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Lonnie Chisenhall remains sizzling with four-hit game
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(5:33 pm ET) Indians designated hitter Lonnie Chisenhall neither scored nor drove in a run Thursday in Detroit, but he also made no outs. He slammed four singles from the ninth spot in the order to raise his batting average to .522.

Chisenhall was considered a prime candidate for demotion upon the impending return of Jason Giambi from a rehab assignment, but will quite likely stick around. He has hit safely in all seven games in which he has played this season.

Mike Napoli ready to roll Thursday for Red Sox
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(5:28 pm ET) Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli has returned to the lineup for the Thursday game against the White Sox after being inactive since injuring his firger Tuesday.

Joe Nathan finally collects second save
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(5:28 pm ET) Just 12 days removed from his first save, Tigers closer Joe Nathan slammed the door shut on the Indians Thursday afternoon for his second save of the season.

Nathan entered the game in the ninth and forced Mike Aviles to foul out, followed by a Carlos Santana strikeout and a Michael Brantley fly out to end the game, securing a 7-5 victory. The right-hander has not allowed a run over his last five innings pitched. He owns a 7.94 ERA and 1.94 WHIP along with 4:4 K:BB ratio over 5 2/3 innings pitched.

Justin Verlander walks four in five innings, escapes with win No. 2
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(5:20 pm ET) Tigers starting pitcher Justin Verlander showed some command issues and issued for walks on Thursday. However, he still managed to escape with his second win of the season in a 7-5 victory over Cleveland.

Making his fourth start of the season, Verlander (2-1) permitted a run-scoring single to David Murphy in the fourth and a two-run single to Michael Brantley in the following frame. He surrendered three unearned runs on six hits and four walks while striking out seven over five innings. He tossed 113 pitches, 74 of which came for strikes.

Verlander has struck out at least seven in each of his last two starts. He owns a 2.08 ERA and 1.35 WHIP along with 20:10 K:BB ratio over 26 innings. He'll make his next start Tuesday at home against the White Sox.
