Nationals LF Jayson Werth swinging practice bat
by Ruben Palacios | Staff Writer
(5:39 pm ET) Nationals left fielder Jayson Werth is making progress in his recovery from a fractured wrist, the Washington Times is reporting.

Werth was able to swing a fungo bat -- a lightweight bat used to practice hitting balls to fielders -- on Saturday, which is significant given just a few weeks ago he was limited to just holding and gripping a bat without swinging.

Werth has been on the 15-day disbaled list since late May.

Phillies SP Cole Hamels sharp in no-decision
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(5:39 pm ET) Cole Hamels had a great outing for the Phillies on Sunday, but was left without anything to show for it, as his offense didn't get going until the 10th inning of a 4-0 win.

Hamels twired seven shutout innings against the overmatched Braves, scattering six hits while striking out six batters and walking none. Hamels (5-6) has not earned a win since May 23, with three losses and four no-decisions during that time span.

Sunday marked the first time in Hamels' 17 starts this season that he did not walk a batter.

Braves SP Shelby Miller strong in no-decision
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(5:34 pm ET) Shelby Miller notched a solid start, but didn't factor in the decision as the Braves dropped an extra-inning affair to the Phillies on Sunday.

Miller went 6 1/3 innings, scattering seven hits, but didn't allow any runs. He struck out eight and walked just two in the 108-pitch effort.

Despite the strong work, Miller still hasn't picked up a victory since May 17, with three losses and six no-decisions over that timeframe. His ERA is still a very respectable 2.07, among the NL league leaders.
