Mariners SP Felix Hernandez allows seven runs in Monday's loss
by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(1:34 am ET) Mariners pitcher Felix Hernandez had his worst start of the season during Monday's 7-2 loss to the Yankees.

Hernandez (8-2) allowed seven runs on six hits over 4 2/3 Jennings. His biggest mistake was giving up a grand slam to Mark Teixeira in the fifth inning.

Monday was the first time Hernandez was not able to pitch at least five innings in a start this season. He struck out four and walked a season-high five batters during the outing. His next expected start is scheduled for Saturday against the Rays.

Giants P Ryan Vogelsong allows 3 earned runs in loss
by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com
(1:30 am ET) Giants pitcher Ryan Vogelsong gave up four runs — three earned — in Monday night's 4-3 loss to the Pirates.

Vogelsong pitched well in every inning except the fifth. In that frame, he gave up his three earned runs, which included a two-run double from Neil Walker. Vogelsong went six innings, struck out five batters, gave up five hits and walked two hitters.

This is the first time since April 29 that Vogelsong has given up more than two earned runs in a game. His ERA is now 4.26 for the season.

His next start is scheduled for Sunday against the Phillies.

Pirates P Gerrit Cole strikes out 9 in win over Giants
by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com

The two runs allowed occurred in the first inning thanks to a Jung Ho Kang throwing error with two outs. Cole put in an inspired performance, striking out nine while walking two and surrendering five hits.

Cole has now struck out 26 batters in his past three games. Cole now has an 8-2 record with a 1.90 ERA.

His next start is scheduled for Sunday against the Braves.

by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com

This is the second time in his past five outings that Murphy has recorded at least three hits in a single game.
