Yan Gomes dealing with minor concussion; no DL move yet
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(4:27 pm ET) Indians team doctors think catcher Yan Gomes might have a minor concussion, manager Terry Francona told The Chronicle-Telegram Friday. The team has yet to make a decision on whether Gomes will go on the 7-day concussion disabled list yet, however, though he is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Astros.

Mike Napoli expected back Saturday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(4:27 pm ET) Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli is expected back Saturday, according to ESPN.

Napoli is dealing with back spasms. He's missed two games due to the injury. Napoli is hitting .266/.385/.446 over 354 at-bats.

Joakim Soria should return shortly after eligible
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(4:26 pm ET) Tigers pitcher Joakim Soria is eligible to return from the disabled list Monday, and could be back from an oblique injury shortly after, manager Dave Dombrowski said Friday.

"He can be activated on Monday," Dombrowski told MLB Network Radio. "I'm not sure he'll be activated right then, but he's very close."

Soria should not need much more time than the minimum to return from his injury, which has kept him out since Aug. 9. He had allowed five earned runs in 4 1/3 innings since joining the Tigers.

David Holmberg returns to Triple-A Friday
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(3:51 pm ET) Reds pitcher David Holmberg was sent back to Triple-A Louisville Friday, one day after he surrendered six runs in 2 2/3 innings in a start against the Braves.

Holmberg was simply making a spot start, and will likely return to the Louisville rotation for the time being. He has been tagged for 11 runs in 5 1/3 innings in two appearances in the majors this season.

Daniel Corcino gets the call from Double-A
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(3:49 pm ET) The Reds recalled pitch Daniel Corcino from Double-A Pensacola Friday, the team announced.

Corcino will be making his major-league debut the first time he appears in a game with the Reds. The 23-year-old has a 4.13 ERA In 143 2/3 innings at Double-A this season, and will likely serve as bullpen depth for the Reds.

Carlos Beltran still sidelined Friday
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(3:38 pm ET) Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran's absence from the lineup Friday should come as little surprise, as the veteran continues to deal with issues with his elbow.

Beltran had a cortisone injection in the elbow Wednesday, the team announced, and his status moving forward is expected to be determined Saturday.

Yoenis Cespedes returns to lineup following family issue
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(3:37 pm ET) Red Sox outfielder Yoenis Cespedes is back in the starting lineup Friday against the Mariners, after leaving Thursday's game due to a family issue. He is batting fourth and starting in left field for the opener of a three-game series at home.

Allen Craig returns to outfield Friday
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(3:30 pm ET) Red Sox first baseman Allen Craig is starting in right field Friday, just one day after he made his return from the disabled list as a designated hitter. This will be Craig's first appearance in the field since suffering the foot injury that landed him on the DL Aug. 1.

Yan Gomes still sidelined Friday
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(3:24 pm ET) Indians catcher Yan Gomes was unable to return to the lineup Friday for the start of a series against the Astros, as he continues to deal with the effects of taking a foul ball off the mask Thursday. At this point, he is considered day to day, and the extent of the issue is not yet known.

Craig Gentry brought back from DL
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(3:23 pm ET) Athletics outfielder Craig Gentry was activated from the disabled list Friday and is expected to be in the starting lineup Friday against the Angels, according to InsideBayArea.com.

Gentry has been out since late July with a hand injury, but just finished a rehab assignment at Triple-A Sacramento, where he hit .267 in four games.
