Dodgers place Yasiel Puig, Joel Peralta on disabled list
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(2:18 pm ET) The Dodgers placed right fielder Yasiel Puig and pitcher Joel Peralta on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, MLB.com reports.

Puig reinjured his hamstring Friday, leading manager Don Mattingly to say Saturday that he could possibly hit the disabled list to allow the injury the proper time to rest and heal. Peralta was also considered a candidate for the disabled list as he has been dealing with a case of dead arm and has no strength in his shoulder.

With two spots opening on the active roster, the Dodgers purchased the contract of pitcher Scott Baker, who's scheduled to start Sunday's game, while recalling pitcher Carlos Frias from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(2:08 pm ET) Dodgers pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu threw a bullpen session Sunday for the first time since suffering a shoulder injury, MLB.com reports.

Ryu hasn't pitched since March 17 due to a shoulder impingement. Provided he came out of Sunday's session with no setbacks, it's possible he could go out on rehab assignment later this week with an eye toward returning to the team in early May.

Pirates' Mark Melancon unavailable Sunday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(1:59 pm ET) Pirates closer Mark Melancon is unavailable to pitch Sunday after racking up three saves in the last three days, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Melancon has dealt with some velocity issues this April and owns a 5.79 ERA and 5:4 K:BB ratio in 9 1/3 innings, but he hasn't surrendered a run in any of his three appearances over the last three days. With the closer getting a scheduled break, the team could turn to lefty Tony Watson or righty Jared Hughes in a save opportunity Sunday.

Giants-Rockies postponed Sunday due to rain
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(1:53 pm ET) Sunday's scheduled game between the Giants and Rockies has been postponed due to rain, the Denver Post reports.

The series finale between the two teams was scheduled to feature a matchup between righty Tim Lincecum and lefty Tyler Matzek, but both starters could have their starts pushed back one day as their respective teams each open a series on the road. Makeup details for Sunday's postponement have yet to be announced.
