(6:14 pm ET) Tigers catcher James McCann is not in the starting lineup for Monday's game. McCann has started 49 games and five of the last seven. 

Replacing McCann behind the plate is Alex Avila, who started at first the last two games. Avila will get his 22nd start at catcher this season. 


Brewers expected to activate Khris Davis on Tuesday

(5:55 pm ET) Brewers manager Craig Counsell said Monday that outfielder Khris Davis is likely to be activated for Tuesday's game against the Braves, reports the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Davis has been sidelined since May 30 after undergoing knee surgery.


White Sox impressed by Nate Jones in simulated game

Jones is on the 60-day disabled list as he recovers from Tommy John surgery. 

Ventura raved about how the ball came out of Jones' hand. Jones should be ready for a minor league rehab assignment in the near future. 


Blue Jays RP Roberto Osuna over back injury, available Monday

(5:51 pm ET) Blue Jays reliever Roberto Osuna, who complained of back pain Sunday, is fine and available to pitch Monday against the White Sox, manager John Gibbons said.

The rookie right-hander has totaled three saves, one hold and a 2.92 ERA in 13 outings since June 5. He has 18 strikeouts in 12 1/3 innings in that span.


Report: Tigers' Tom Gorzelanny accepts Triple-A assignment

(5:48 pm ET) Tigers pitcher Tom Gorzelanny has cleared waviers and will accept his assignment to Triple-A, reports the Detroit Free Press.

Gorzelanny was recently designated for assignment by the Tigers. He went 1-1 with a 6.38 ERA over 24 innings of work this season.


Blue Jays pitcher Felix Doubront could start Tuesday's game

(5:39 pm ET) If Blue Jays pitcher Felix Doubront does not appear in Monday's game at the Chicago White Sox, manager John Gibbons said Doubront will start Tuesday's contest against the White Sox, reports the Toronto Star.

Doubront has a 3.86 ERA over 2 1/3 innings this season with one strike out and no walks.


Padres' Brandon Morrow to throw bullpen session on Tuesday

Morrow has been on the 60-day disabled list from a shoulder injury that has sidelined him since May 3. 

Assuming everything goes well, Morrow will throw a simulated game for the team on Saturday. 


Padres' Dale Thayer to throw bullpen on Tuesday

Thayer has been on the disabled list since June 16 with a strained right shoulder. The team will reassess him after his Tuesday session. 


Cubs RP Rafael Soriano reports to Double-A

(5:30 pm ET) Before Cubs pitcher Rafael Soriano can join the team, he will need get some work at Double-A, reports SportsNet Chicago.

Soriano was recently signed by the Cubs and is expected to join the team after the All-Star break.


Royals pitcher Joe Blanton heading back to bullpen

(5:29 pm ET) Royals pitcher Joe Blanton will be shifted to the bullpen with Yordano Ventura set to come off the disabled list Thursday, according to The Kansas City Star.

Since joining the rotation June 17, Blanton went 2-2 with a 5.30 ERA in four starts. He struck out 17 and issued four walks in 18 2/3 innings.
