(6:17 pm ET) The Orioles have brought back pitcher Wei-Yin Chen and Darren O'Day for next season.

Dan Haren decides to return to Los Angeles
    by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(6:15 pm ET) Dodgers pitcher Dan Haren has decided to remain with the club, according to the Los Angeles Times

Haren opted to exercise a $10 million option to stay with the team. In his first season with Los Angeles, Haren posted a 4.02 ERA 186 innings.

Royals expected to decline option on Billy Butler
    by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(6:07 pm ET) The Royals are expected to decline an option on designated hitter Billy Butler, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman.

Butler slumped last season, hitting .271/.323/.379 over 549 at-bats. He hit just nine home runs. Butler is owed $12 million next season, and the team is expected to go a different direction.

Royals pitcher Danny Duffy limited by rib issue
    by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(6:05 pm ET) Royals pitcher Danny Duffy was limited by a rib injury throughout the playoffs, according to the Kansas City Star.

Duffy suffered a stress fractuce in his ribcage late in the year, which prevented him from throwing more than two or three innings at a time. Duffy was a candidate to start the first game of the ALDS until the injury cropped up. Duffy was excellent down the stretch for Kansas City. He posted a 2.53 ERA over 149 1/3 innings.

Marlins expected to bring back Jeff Mathis
    by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(6:00 pm ET) The Marlins are expected to pick up an option on catcher Jeff Mathis, according to MLB.com.

Mathis is owed $1.5 million next season, and the club will likely pick that up. Mathis isn't much of a threat at the plate, but receives high marks for his defense and ability to work with a pitching staff.

Phillies decline option on Mike Adams
    by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(5:57 pm ET) The Phillies have declined an option on reliever Mike Adams, according to SBNation.

Adams could have been brought back for $6 million, but the team opted to cut bait. He posted a 2.89 ERA over 18 2/3 innings, but struggled with arm injuries throughout the year.

Rangers' Jurickson Profar at about 95 percent
    by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(5:54 pm ET) Rangers infielder Jurickson Profar is at about 95 percent, according to the Dallas Morning News

A shoulder injury limited Profar throughout the entire season. The team will give Profar three more weeks before re-evaluating him. The hope is that Profar will be cleared by January. He did not appear in the majors last season.

Red Sox outfielder Rusney Castillo done in the AFL
    by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(5:51 pm ET) Red Sox outfielder Rusney Castillo will not play in the Arizona Fall League, according to the Providence Journal.

Castillo is dealing with a thumb injury, and the team wants to play it safe. It's unclear whether Castillo will go to Puerto Rico in order to play winter ball.

Yankees activate Alex Rodriguez from restricted list
    by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(5:45 pm ET) The Yankees have activated third baseman Alex Rodriguez from the restricted list Thursday.

He's back! After serving a full season suspension, Rodriguez has been reinstated by the club. It's unclear what role Rodriguez will play next season. There have been reports that A-Rod may see time at first or could serve as the designated hitter. The 39-year-old hit .244/.348/.423 over 156 at-bats back in 2013.

Cardinals retain John Lackey for 2015
    by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(5:40 pm ET) The Cardinals have picked up an option on pitcher John Lackey for 2015.

Lackey's contract situation was somewhat unique. Since he missed time a couple years ago due to elbow surgery, Lackey's 2015 option dropped to just $500,000. The move was a no-brainer for St. Louis. Last season, Lackey posted a 3.82 ERA over 198 innings.
