Padres re-acquire RP Chris Rearick

(2:40 pm ET) The Padres picked up a familiar face Sunday, placing claiming relief pitcher Chris Rearick from the Rangers, who had claimed Rearick from the Padres on Aug. 26 only to designate him for assignment a day later. 

Rearick made his MLB debut and appeared in five games with the Padres this season, allowing four runs in three innings. He was 0-3 with a 5.23 ERA in 37 games with Triple-A El Paso.


Giants SP Tim Lincecum suffers setback

(2:30 pm ET) Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum recently suffered a setback during his rehab from a forearm injury, reports the San Jose Mercury News.

The team is exploring various treatments for Lincecum and sent MRIs to a specialist. Lincecum has not pitched since June 27.


Athletics scratch Brett Lawrie from Sunday's lineup

Astros OF George Springer collects one hit in rehab game

(2:16 pm ET) Astros outfielder George Springer started his rehab assignment at Double-A on Saturday by going 1 for 4 at the plate. He also scored one run and struck out once.

Springer has been sidelined since July 1 with a fractured wrist.


Cardinals SP Lance Lynn (ankle) set to make next start

(2:12 pm ET) Cardinals starter Lance Lynn, who rolled his ankle during his start Saturday, did not have the injury taped up Sunday and said he was ready to make his next start, per USA Today

Lynn injured himself fielding a grounder in the eighth inning of his win, but the mild sprain will not prevent him from making a key start against Pittsburgh on Friday. 


Phillies claim pitcher Kenny Roberts off waivers from Rockies

(1:58 pm ET) The Phillies claimed pitcher Kenny Roberts off waivers from the Rockies on Sunday, the Phillies announced.

Roberts was then optioned to the team's Triple-A affiliate. He has a 5.79 ERA over 9 1/3 innings this season.


SS Jhonny Peralta out of Cardinals' lineup Sunday

(1:54 pm ET) Shortstop Jhonny Peralta will get a break Sunday, as he is not in the Cardinals' starting lineup or the series finale against the Giants. 

Peralta is 0-for-17 in his last four games and is hitting just .229 in 96 at-bats in August. He will be replaced in the starting lineup by Greg Garcia. 


Giants SS Brandon Crawford remains sidelined Sunday

(1:48 pm ET) Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford was not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, the team announced. It will be the fifth straight game Crawford has not started due to an oblique injury.

Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk (elbow) making strides

(1:42 pm ET) Cardinals outfielder Randal Grichuk, who has been on the disabled list since Aug. 17 with a right elbow strain, is getting closer to participating in baseball-related activities, per KMOX Radio. 

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said that Grichuk still needs time to recover from the injury, but that he is hopeful the young outfielder can return by mid-September. 

Grichuk is slashing .284/.333/.561 this season. 


Diamondbacks promote RP Silvino Bracho

(1:38 pm ET) The Diamondbacks announced Sunday they have selected the contract of pitcher Silvino Bracho from Double-A Mobile to join the bullpen. 

This is Bracho's first promotion to the majors. He was 2-1, with a 1.60 ERA, over 43 appearances between Single-A and Double-A this season. 

To make room for Bracho, the D-Backs optioned reliever Andrew Chafin to Triple-A, in part to give him some rest. Chafin was 5-1 with a 2.41 ERA in 55 games. 

"He's going down to get rest. We've run him hard this year," manager Chip Hale said.
