by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12:55 pm ET) Orioles slugger Adam Jones has been given the day off for the game Saturday against visiting Tampa Bay.

The premier center fielder, who had played in all 47 games this season, has been hitting below par recently after an outrageous run to open the year. He has just seven hits in his last 41 at-bats with one home run in May and two since April 14.

Buck Showalter has yet to indicate if the reason for his absence is for anything other than the opportunity to give him a rest.

Chen has been shaky in his last two starts, allowing seven runs on 19 hits in 12 innings. His 1-3 record is not indicative of how he's pitched this season, however. He owns a solid 3.13 ERA.
