Dodgers OF Matt Kemp set to DH on Monday

(5:53 pm ET) Slumping Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp will not have to worry about playing the field Monday night against the cross-town Angels. He is serving as the designated hitter after starting 44 of 45 games in right.

Kemp broke a 1-for-18 slide with two hits Sunday. But he has just one homer run in 175 at-bats on the season.


LF Collin Cowgill (hand) not in Angels lineup Monday

(5:49 pm ET) Angels left fielder Collin Cowgill, who was scratched from Sunday's lineup after injuring his hand during batting practice, is not in the starting lineup Monday against the Padres. 

X-rays were negative on Cowgill's hand, but Matt Joyce will play left for Los Angeles and hit sixth in the lineup. Carlos Perez draws the start behind the plate for the Angels and will hit seventh. 

The Angels (-140) are big favorites per VegasInsider.com. 


Royals LHP Brandon Finnegan banished to Omaha

(5:46 pm ET) That didn't take long - Royals lefty reliever Brandon Finnegan was optioned to Triple-A Omaha after the Monday loss to the Yankees after having been called up before it began.

Finnegan certainly distinguished himself in-between, however. He threw three shutout innings in the rout.


Giants' Brandon Crawford adding power to deep lineup

(5:45 pm ET) Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford has provided the spark San Francisco needs in the lineup so far this season. Crawford's power numbers haven't been much different from his other seasons, manager Bruce Bochy said per MLB.com.

"When you look at a guy having success, that's usually the case," Bochy said. "You look at his history, he's always got out to a nice start."

Crawford has a a career high .382/.382/.514 slash line to begin the season and came into Monday's game 10 for his last 14 at the plate.

"That's why he was off yesterday, to give him some more rest so he stays strong," Bochy said before Monday's game.


Brewers place Wily Peralta on DL; Recall David Goforth from Triple-A

(5:45 pm ET) A strained left oblique landed Brewers pitcher Wily Peralta on the 15-day disabled list Monday, the team announced.

Peralta left Friday's start with tightness in the left side of his body, but he was hoping to avoid a disabled list stint. Brewers manager Craig Counsel said Peralta will be sidelined for four weeks. The team has not decided who will take Peralta's spot in the rotation. 

The team will recall pitcher Daivd Goforth from its Triple-A affiliate.


Padres 2B Jedd Gyorko benched for Monday game

(5:39 pm ET) Padres second baseman Jedd Gyorko is set to sit Monday night against the host Angels. Cory Spangenberg will play the position.

Gyorko has been struggling for the second straight year. His latest hitless slide is 10 at-bats as his slash line has been weakened to .202/.275/.323.


Orioles SP Dylan Bundy (shoulder) scratched from start

(5:36 pm ET) Orioles prospect Dylan Bundy , who was scheduled to make a start at Double-A Bowie on Tuesday, was scratched Monday with shoulder tightness, per MASNSports. 

Bundy, who is working his way back from Tommy John surgery in 2013, will see a doctor Tuesday to determine the extent of the injury, which could be shoulder tendinitis. 

Bundy hasn't worked more than three innings in any of his 8 minor league starts, where he is 0-3 with a 3.68 ERA. 


Royals' Alex Rios goes 0 for 5 in Triple-A rehab game Monday

(5:36 pm ET) Royals right fielder Alex Rios went 0 for 5 while serving as a designated hitter in his rehab debut with Triple-A Omaha on Monday.

Rios is working his way back from a fractured left hand. He was 9 for 28 with one home run, eight RBI and two stolen bases in seven games before suffering the injury.


Reds pitcher Johnny Cueto expected to miss just one start

(5:35 pm ET) Reds pitcher Johnny Cueto is expected to miss just one start with right elbow stiffness, manager Bryan Price said on Monday per The Cincinnati Enquirer.

Cueto was examined further on Monday after missing his scheduled start on Sunday against the Indians. It was reported to be worse than first anticipated, but Price believes he will be back this week. Cincinnati's ace is 3-4 with a 3.03 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 65 1/3 innings of work this season.


Giants' Hunter Pence collects three hits Monday vs. Brewers

(5:29 pm ET) Giants right fielder Hunter Pence went 3 for 4 with a walk, a double, two RBI and a stolen base in his team's 8-4 win over the Brewers on Monday.

Pence opened his team's series in Milwaukee in fine form, capping a seven-run sixth inning with a two-run double after scoring a run himself earlier in the frame. He's done a great job at the plate since coming back from a broken arm, hitting .342/.390/.500 with one home run, nine RBI and one stolen base in 38 at-bats.
