Mariners select pitcher Mark Lowe from Triple-A

(8:46 pm ET) The Mariners have selected pitcher Mark Lowe's contract from Triple-A Tacoma, the team announced. To make room for him, the team placed Julio Morban on the restricted list.

Lowe appeared in seven games this season while in Triple-A, posting an 0-1 record with a 1.00 ERA and 11 strikeouts in nine innings of work.


Nationals' Felipe Rivero had ulcer that burst, underwent procedure

(8:31 pm ET) Nationals reliever Felipe Rivero endured a miserable past couple of weeks. 

According to The Washington Post's James Wagner, Rivero's gastrointestinal bleed was much worse than what was announced. Rivero said he threw up blood on April 21 after throwing just two pitches during a team event. 

After alerting the team, it was discovered that Rivero had an ulcer that burst. He went to the hospital and had a procedure done to patch up his stomach lining. Rivero told The Post he's no longer feeling any pain. 

“Sometimes I don’t feel well but I’m getting there,” Rivero said. “Little by little. [Sunday,] when I did flat ground, I was too tired. I did flat ground [Monday] and it was a little bit better. I wasn’t as tired.”

Rivero has appeared in only one game this season for the Nationals. 


Diamondbacks 3B Jake Lamb expected out of walking boot Tuesday

(8:29 pm ET) Diamondbacks third baseman Jake Lamb is expected to be out of his walking boot Tuesday and may join the team by the end of the next home stand, manager Chip Hale said per according to AZCentral.com.

Lamb, who is currently on the 15-day DL with a foot injury, has been out of action since late April. He is hitting .414 with a home run and nine RBI in 29 at-bats this season.


Giants OF Hunter Pence scheduled for batting practice this week

(8:24 pm ET) Giants outfielder Hunter Pence is scheduled to go through batting practice this week through Friday, reports CSN Bay Area.

Pence, who is currently on the 15-day DL with a forearm injury, is yet to begin his assignment, but could do so next week if all goes according to plan. Pence hit .277 with 20 home runs in 2014.


Mariners place Julio Morban on restricted list

(8:22 pm ET) The Mariners have placed outfielder Julio Morban on the restricted list, clearing a 40-man roster spot for pitcher Mark Lowe, MLB.com reports.

Morban recently left Triple-A Tacoma for personal reasons. He has hit .175/.283/.325 with one home run, six RBI and one stolen base in 40 at-bats with the team.


Former Pirates, Yankees pitcher Jeff Karstens officially retires

(8:05 pm ET) Former Pirates and Yankees pitcher Jeff Karstens, 32, announced on Twitter Sunday that he has officially retired from baseball

Karstens has not pitched in the major leagues since 2012, sidelined with a number of shoulder injuries that culminated with surgery to repair the labrum and rotator cuff in his right shoulder in 2013. 

Karstens pitched in the major leagues from 2006-2012, posting a career record of 26-40 with a 4.44 ERA.


Diamondbacks' Patrick Corbin has rehab start rained out

(7:54 pm ET) Diamondbacks pitcher Patrick Corbin's recovery from last year's Tommy John surgery hit a speed bump ... because of the weather. 

D-Backs manager Chip Hale said that Corbin's scheduled start in extended spring training was rained out on Monday, per AZCentral.com. He'll throw on Tuesday, instead. 


Astros prospect Colin Moran (jaw) out four weeks

(7:53 pm ET) Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said Monday that third baseman Colin Moran would be out four weeks due to a fractured jaw, MLB.com reports.

Moran suffered a nondisplaced jaw fracture last week after being struck in the face by a throw during a slide into second base. He has hit .268/.318/.378 with 17 RBI in 82 at-bats with Double-A Corpus Christi.


Dan Otero's iron man streak to end for Athletics on Monday

(7:49 pm ET) Athletics reliever Dan Otero has pitched in five games in five days, setting a career high. 

"I’d never pitched in four games in four days before this," Otero said, per the Inside the A's blog. "But really, I feel good,"

Otero said he would be able to pitch to a batter or two in Monday's game, but manager Bob Melvin put a stop to that talk, saying that Otero's streak was coming to an end. 


Rays' Steven Souza due for day off Tuesday or Wednesday

(7:46 pm ET) Rays outfielder Steven Souza will get a day off early this week, manager Kevin Cash told the media on Monday. 

Souza has started nine straight games and has been out of the starting lineup just twice this season. 

Souza will be out of the lineup either Tuesday or Wednesday, Cash said, per the Tampa Tribune.
