Report: Blue Jays pay Johan Santana $100,000 retention bonus

(5:00 pm ET) The Blue Jays have decided to pay a $100,000 retention bonus to pitcher Johan Santana to keep him in the organization, Yahoo! Sports reports.

Manager John Gibbons said recently that Santana could be ready to return to the mound in mid-April. He's working his way back from shoulder and Achilles issues.


Wade Miley confirms he'll start fourth game for Red Sox

(4:59 pm ET) Red Sox pitcher Wade Miley confirmed that he would be the fourth starter for the Red Sox to start the season. 

Miley told the media he would make his first start of the regular season against the Yankees. That series starts after three games against the Phillies. 

That would indicate that Justin Masterson is the Red Sox's third starter, although manager John Farrell hasn't confirmed it. 


Corey Dickerson scratched from Rockies lineup on Tuesday

(4:55 pm ET) Rockies outfielder Corey Dickerson was scratched from the lineup on Tuesday, per MLB.com.

Dickerson was benched as a precautionary measure, due to back tightness. Dickerson is hitting .289 this spring. 


Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright allows two hits in final spring outing

(4:53 pm ET) Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright gave up two runs (one earned) on eight hits in 6 2/3 innings pitched Tuesday in his final spring training start. Wainwright also added one walk and two strikeouts to his totals.

Wainwright finished spring training with a 3.14 ERA with seven strikeouts and three walks in three starts.


Dodgers' Andre Ethier exits after HBP on right elbow

(4:53 pm ET) Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier was forced out of Tuesday's Cactus League game against the White Sox after he took a Carlos Rodon pitch to his right elbow, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Chris Heisey took over for Ethier in the bottom of the second inning. Ethier is hitting .313 this spring. The team will likely provide an update on the extent of his injury after the game.


Rockies' John Axford out since Wednesday after son injured

(4:51 pm ET) Rockies pitcher John Axford left camp last Wednesday, after his son was bitten by a rattlesnake, per MLB.com.

The two and a half year old was in danger of losing his foot, but his condition has improved and doctors believe the foot will be saved.

Axford has played catch and threw a bullpen session on Tuesday, but it's not sure when he'll return to game action.


Blue Jays' Aaron Sanchez allows five runs, six walks Tuesday

(4:50 pm ET) Blue Jays pitcher Aaron Sanchez surrendered five earned runs on six hits and six walks in 4 1/3 innings while striking out two in his team's 10-6 win over the Phillies Tuesday.

Sanchez endured his worst start of the spring Tuesday, walking six batters after issuing just four walks over his first four appearances. He closes Grapefruit League play with a 5.16 ERA and 11:10 K:BB ratio in 22 2/3 innings. Sanchez is set to open the season in the major-league rotation.


Marlins pitcher Henderson Alvarez allows one run in final tuneup

(4:47 pm ET) Marlins pitcher Henderson Alvarez gave up just one run on six hits in six innings of work Tuesday in his final start of spring trainig. 

Alvarez also added two walks and one strikeout. Alvarez, who will be Miami's Opening Day starter, finished the spring campaign with a 4.26 ERA with three walks and nine strikeouts in five spring starts.


Phillies' Sean O'Sullivan allows four runs vs. Blue Jays Tuesday

(4:45 pm ET) Phillies pitcher Sean O'Sullivan surrendered four earned runs on five hits and four walks in four innings while striking out two and fiving up two home runs in his team's 10-6 loss to the Blue Jays.

O'Sullivan is the favorite to serve as the team's fifth starter but didn't help his candidacy Tuesday, as his spring ERA rose from 6.75 to 7.59 after the mediocre showing. He ends Grapefruit League action with an 8:5 K:BB ratio and four home runs allowed in 10 2/3 innings.


Mets' Collins not worried about Travis d'Arnaud's spring numbers

(4:44 pm ET) Mets catcher Travis d'Arnaud singled twice Tuesday against the Nationals, recording just his second multihit game in 16 appearances this spring. d'Arnaud is batting .239 with no home runs and five RBI, but manager Terry Collins isn't too concerned about his spring numbers.

"You can't get caught up in spring training," Collins said, per NJ.com. "Just as I'm not too caught up in the guys that are hitting .450."
