Gibbons: CF Ben Revere set to assume platoon role
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(4:09 pm ET) John Gibbons has revealed that Blue Jays newcomer Ben Revere won't be an everyday player, nor will he bat leadoff, as he did with Philadelphia. He will platoon against right-handers and likely hit ninth.

Revere arrives with a slash line of .298/.334/.374. But Troy Tulowitzki has taken over the leadoff spot and Revere is batting just .250 (19-for-76) against lefties this season.

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(4:06 pm ET) The Reds recalled outfielder Kyle Waldrop from Triple-A Louisville on Friday. It is his first stint in the majors.

The 2010 12th-round pick hit .254 with three triples, 16 doubles, six home runs, 35 RBI, 24 runs, 16 walks and 87 strikeouts in 95 games between Double-A and Triple-A. He has a career .283/.329/.450/.779 slash line in six minor-league seasons.

Pineyro has made 19 starts this season and boasts a 7-5 record and 3.69 ERA with 92 strikeouts in 107 1/3 innings.

Soto has 73 singles among his 84 hits, but has 55 walks and owns a fine on-base percentage of .388.

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(3:57 pm ET) The Mets have traded for outfielder Yoenis Cespedes from the Tigers in exchange for two minor leaguers, CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman has reported. The deal was agreed to just prior to the 4pm trade deadline on Friday.

The Mets are sending minor league pitchers Michael Fulmer and Luis Sessa, according to the New York Post. The teams have not yet confirmed the deal.

Phillies trade Ben Revere to Blue Jays for two minor-league pitchers
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(3:53 pm ET) The Phillies traded outfielder Ben Revere to the Blue Jays on Friday in exchange for minor-league pitchers Jimmy Cordero and Alberto Tirado.

The 27-year-old Revere is headed back to the AL. He began his career as a 2007 first-round pick of the Twins. He spent the first three seasons of his MLB career with Minnesota before he was traded to Philadelphia in Dec. 2012.

He is batting .298 with a .334 on-base percentage, .374 slugging percentage and .709 OPS in 96 games in 2015. He also has one home run, six triples, 13 doubles, 26 RBI, 49 runs and 24 stolen bases.

The 23-year-old Cordero is 0-1 with a 2.70 ERA and two saves in 32 relief appearances between high Class A and Double-A this season. The 20-year-old Tirado is 4-3 with a 3.23 ERA and three saves in 31 appearances for high Class A.

Astros send 1B Jon Singleton to Triple-A on Friday

Singleton, who made his MLB debut in 2014, began this season at Triple and was recalled at the end of June. In 16 games since the call-up, the young slugger hit .205 with just one home run and 16 strikeouts.

Manager: Reds RF Jay Bruce getting scheduled day off Friday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(3:46 pm ET) Bryan Price has declared that absence of Reds right fielder Jay Bruce from the lineup for the Friday night game against Pittsburgh and is no indication of an impending trade, per the Cincinnati Enquirer.

That would be a bit of a coincidence - Bruce has been out of the lineup just once since June 26. He has hit safely in six of his last seven games.
