Brewers' Mike Fiers strikes out six in no-decision Sunday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(5:39 pm ET) Brewers pitcher Mike Fiers didn't factor into the decision Sunday, giving up two runs (one earned) on nine hits and two walks while striking out but pitching just four-plus innings in his team's 6-3 win over the Cardinals.

Despite the plethora of base-runners, Fiers was able to work three scoreless innings before surrendering an RBI single in the fourth inning that came after he committed a throwing error with two outs. He then served up a solo home run to open the fifth and was immediately pulled.

Fiers owns a 5.79 ERA and 22:7 K:BB ratio in 18 2/3 innings over four starts. He'll continue to look for his first win Saturday against the Cubs in Chicago.

Delmon Young drives in five runs in Orioles' big win on Sunday
by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer
(5:38 pm ET) Delmon Young picked up five RBI on Sunday in the Orioles' lopsided victory over the Red Sox.

He went 3 for 6 overall in the game, with a double and three runs scored.

Young entered Sunday's game with two RBI in 32 at-bats this season.

Athletics confident with Jesse Chavez back in starting rotation
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(5:37 pm ET) Athletics manager Bob Melvin made a difficult decision Sunday, optioning pitcher Kendall Graveman to Triple-A, pushing Jesse Chavez back into the starting rotation. He was expected to begin the season as a reliever, but Melvin is confident Chavez can get the job done as a start, reports CSN Bay Area.

"Not only is he able to (start) on a moment's notice, he showed what he's capable of doing in the first half of last year," manager Bob Melvin said. "He was as good as a lot of the guys on our team that (were) All-Stars. We’re lucky to have a guy like Jesse Chavez."

Chavez, who has made one start this season with an 0-1 record and a 0.71 ERA in 12 2/3 innings, won't change anything in his approach.

"It's just a different title and role," Chavez said. "That's how I look at it. I've still gotta go out there and do my job. Throw strikes and give us the best chance to win, and go as deep as I can in the ballgame."

Cardinals' Lance Lynn allows six runs in loss vs. Brewers
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(5:35 pm ET) Cardinals pitcher Lance Lynn was rocked in a loss Sunday, allowing six earned runs on 10 hits and one walk in five innings while striking out six in his team's 6-3 defeat against the Brewers.

Lynn (1-2) was facing a Brewers lineup without Carlos Gomez, Ryan Braun, Aramis Ramirez and Scooter Gennett but couldn't find success, giving up three runs on a triple and a home run in the third inning and then allowing three more runs during a fifth inning that featured three doubles.

Lynn's first rough outing of the season gives him a 3.63 ERA and 26:7 K:BB ratio in 22 1/3 innings. He's slated to face the Pirates at home Friday.

Sandoval has two doubles and no triples so far in 2015.

David Murphy extends hit streak with pinch-hit home run
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(5:27 pm ET) David Murphy hit a pinch-hit home run for the Indians in the ninth inning, off of closer Joakim Soria. The blast extended Murphy's hitting streak to five games. He's hitting 7 for 15 over that span.

Murphy led off the ninth with a solo shot, his second homer and second RBI of the year. Hitting .143 before the hit streak began, Murphy is up to .278.

Phillies' Ryan Howard slugs three-run home run Sunday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(5:24 pm ET) Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard went 1 for 4 with a three-run home run in his team's 5-4 win over the Braves Sunday.

Howard wiped out a 2-0 first-inning deficit with his three-run homer in the bottom of the first, and though the Phillies lost the lead in the third inning, they were able to pull out a victory to take two game out of three against the Braves. Howard has hit just .193/.246/.404 but has three home runs and nine RBI in 57 at-bats.
