Braves release RP Josh Outman on Tuesday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(6:20 pm ET) The Braves announced that they have released left-hander Josh Outman on Tuesday. Outman, who was signed as a free agent in January, never threw a pitch for Atlanta. He has spent the duration of the 2015 season on the disabled list due to a shoulder injury.

Cashman: Yankees prospect Luis Severino not on innings limit
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(5:57 pm ET) Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said starting pitcher prospect Luis Severino, who will make his MLB debut Wednesday, is not on an innings limit.

"There's nothing that's going to hold him back now," Cashman said, per NJ.com. "We prepared for this, and hopefully we have a chance to have him max out, because that will mean he's pitching deep into games.

"If he performed up to his capabilities, we felt he would pitch for us from August on at some point. And here we are. So now it's, let's see what we've got."

Severino threw 113 innings last season. He has thrown 99 1/3 innings between Double-A and Triple-A.

"It wouldn't be the worst thing if he went eight innings every time and then we had to be concerned," manager Joe Girardi said. "But I think he's at a pretty good spot. His innings were somewhat controlled down there, and if I'm told we have to manage it, I'll manage it."

Buck Farmer moving to bullpen, option to start Saturday for Tigers
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(5:44 pm ET) Tigers manager Brad Ausmus confirmed starting pitcher Buck Farmer is moving to the bullpen, as Matt Boyd will be joining the rotation Wednesday.

However, Farmer's demotion to the bullpen might not last long since he could start Saturday vs. Boston, if Alfredo Simon (groin) is sidelined.

Red Sox option RP Ryan Cook to Triple-A Pawtucket

Nationals' Stephen Strasburg to throw bullpen session on Wednesday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(5:36 pm ET) Nationals starter Stephen Strasburg is set to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday, the next step in his recovery from an oblique strain. Strasburg threw an impressive rehab start on Monday, striking out 11 batters in 5 2/3 innings with Triple-A Syracuse.

"I felt good. My stuff is there," Strasburg said, per CSN Washington DC. "Just try to keep doing the same things and working on the stuff I’ve been doing. It’s going in the right direction."

Strasburg came out of that start feeling good, and the Nationals will determine whether he needs another rehab start or if he's good to return from the DL, following his bullpen session on Wednesday.

"When you have 11 strikeouts you’re doing something right," manager Matt Williams said. "It shows command for getting ahead in the count. We rely on the people that see him pitch, as well, beyond the stat sheet. Command for his breaking ball as there. Changeup off the fastball was there. And the fastball sat at 95, 96 and touched 98, so that’s all positive things for him moving forward. It means he’s feeling good and he’s got no apprehension letting the ball go."

This season, Strasburg is 5-5 with a 5.16 ERA in 13 starts for the Nationals. He has been on the disabled list twice so far this season.

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Red Sox SP Brian Johnson sidelined with elbow irritation
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(5:05 pm ET) Red Sox manager John Farrell did not have good news for reporters Tuesday regarding starting pitcher prospect Brian Johnson, who is dealing with an irritation in the ulnar nerve area in his elbow. He is shut down indefinitely at Triple-A Pawtucket.

Johnson, who last pitched Sunday for Pawtucket, is 1-0 with a 0.87 ERA in two starts (10 1/3 innings) since his demotion in late July.

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(5:04 pm ET) The Mariners recalled right-handed reliever Mayckol Guaipe from Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday. The rookie thrower has made three relief appearances with Seattle earlier this season, allowing four runs in 4 1/3 innings.

At Triple-A, he is 0-4 with a 3.02 ERA in 41 2/3 innings of relief.
