Mariners SP J.A. Happ battles to earn fourth win on Friday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(12:22 am ET) Mariners left-hander J.A. Happ picked up his fourth win of the season, as he helped Seattle defeat the A's 9-5 on Friday. Happ held the A's to three runs on eight hits over six innings of work. He struck out five and did not walk a batter.

All three runs Happ gave up came in the second inning, putting the Mariners down 3-0 early. But the Mariners offense was able to rally back and get Happ the win.

This was Happ's fourth quality start in his last six outings, and his ERA sits at 3.93 for the season.

Red Sox pitcher Noe Ramirez takes loss in first MLB game
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(12:18 am ET) Red Sox reliever Noe Ramirez made his MLB debut against Houston after being called up earlier in the day.

Ramirez entered in the tenth inning, hit the first batter he faced and gave up three singles in his inning of work. He gave up two earned and two unearned runs to take the loss.

Yankees C Brian McCann slugs walk-off home run on Friday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(12:16 am ET) Yankees catcher Brian McCann came through with the biggest hit of the game on Friday. McCann blasted a three-run, walk-off home run in the bottom of the 12th inning to give his club the 7-5 win over the Rays. It was McCann's only hit of the game.

The home run was McCann's 13th of the season and the fourth-walk off blast of his career.

Astros Roberto Hernandez gets win in relief
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(12:15 am ET) Astros reliever Roberto Hernandez pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn the win against Boston on Friday.

Hernandez recorded his first win since May 19, snapping a two-decision losing streak. He's now 3-5 on the year.

Hernandez retired the side on nine pitches. He had his third scoreless outing in a row and fifth in the last six appearances.

Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira blasts game-tying home run on Friday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(12:12 am ET) Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira came through with a key, game-tying home run in Friday's 7-5 extra-inning win over the Rays. With the Yankees down 3-0, Teixeira belted a three-run shot in the bottom of the eighth inning, propelling the game into extras.

The home run was Teixeria's 20th of the season, giving him at least 20 dingers in all but one season of his 13-year career.

Teixeira has been struggling at the plate, as even with the 2 for 4 effort on Friday, he is batting .222 with nine strikeouts over his last 10 games.

Astros' Pat Neshek blows first save of year
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(12:09 am ET) Astros reliever Pat Neshek gave up a run in the eighth inning of Friday's game against Boston to suffer his first blown save since September 26 of last year.

Neshek entered with a one run lead at the start of the inning. He gave up a two-out walk, followed by an RBI double.

Rays CF Kevin Kiermaier records seventh triple on Friday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(12:06 am ET) Rays center fielder Kevin Kiermaier had a nice night at the plate on Friday. Kiermaier went 2 for 5 with a triple, a run scored and a stolen base, but the Rays fell to the Yankees 7-5 in extra innings.

Kiermaier tripled and scored in the fifth inning. He also stole his ninth base of the year in the game. Coming off of a recent hot stretch, Kiermaier has been struggling to a tune of a .143 batting average over his last seven contests.

Astros' Will Harris blows second lead in three appearances
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(12:05 am ET) Astros' reliever Will Harris was tagged with a tough blown save in Friday's game against Boston.

Harris entered with a one-run lead in the seventh inning. He inherited the bases loaded with no one out.

Harris struck out the first batter he faced, then allowed an inherited runner to score the tying run when the Astros couldn't finish a double play. He escaped the jam with another grounder from the next batter.

It was Harris' third blown save of the year and second in his last three outings. Harris blew the sixth of his career without a successful save.

Yankees' Masahiro Tanaka allows three runs in no-decision Friday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(7/3/2015) Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka showed improvement in his outing on Friday, but still took a no-decision in the extra-innings victory over the Rays. Tanaka allowed three runs on six hits over six innings, walking one and striking out five.

Tanaka, whose ERA rose to 3.94, gave up two runs in the first inning to put his team down early. But the Yankees' offense was able to rally back late in the game to get Tanaka off the hook.

Tanaka had allowed 11 earned runs over his last two starts, so Friday was certainly a step in the right direction. Since returning from the disabled list on June 3, Tanaka has a 4.37 ERA in 37 innings pitched.
