Ender Inciarte slams four hits, leads D-Backs to 13-7 victory

(7:40 pm ET) Diamondbacks outfielder Ender Inciarte cranked out four hits and made two crucial catches against the outfield wall in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Rockies.

Inciarte caught a deep drive by Nick Hundley against the left-field wall in the fifth, then robbed Charlie Blackmon of extra bases with another pivotal grab in the seventh to help secure a 13-7 victory.

Inciarte singled in a run in the second inning and in the ninth. He added a double and finished 4 for 6 with two runs scored and two RBI. He is hitting .333 (32 for 96) with 11 RBI and an .366 on-base percentage in 26 games.


Diamondbacks' Mark Trumbo goes yard, reaches base three times

(7:32 pm ET) Diamondbacks right fielder Mark Trumbo homered and reached base three times in his first game batting second, as his club defeated the Rockies, 13-7, in the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday.

Trumbo, who entered Wednesday hitting .083 through his first three games of May, took Colorado starter Tyler Matzek deep for a two-run home run in the second inning and doubled in another run in the fourth. Trumbo finished 2 for 4 with a walk, two runs scored and three RBI, raising his batting average to .295 on the year. He was given a breather in the second game of the doubleheader.


Padres SS Alexi Amarista collects three hits Wednesday

(7:32 pm ET) Padres shortstop Alexi Amarista went 3 for 5 at the plate to lead the Padres to a 9-1 win over the Giants on Wednesday.

Before Wednesday's game, Amarista had been 1 for 15 in last four games. He drove in two runs during Wednesday's contest and was able to raise his batting average from 175 to .206.


Padres LF Justin Upton sets career high in walks Wednesday

(7:27 pm ET) Padres left fielder Justin Upton set a career high with four walks during Wednesday's 9-1 win over the Giants, according to the Associated Press.

Upton was hitless in his two other at-bats Wednesday and he scored two runs. He is now hitting .294 on the season.


Rockies SP Tyler Matzek gets knocked around again

(7:26 pm ET) Rockies starting pitcher Tyler Matzek was roughed up and charged with his first loss of the season in Game 2 of a doubleheader against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

Matzek gave up a run-scoring single to Ender Inciarte and a two-run home run to Mark Trumbo in the second inning. He was charged with four earned runs on three hits and six walks while striking out two over two innings of work. of his 58 pitches, 20 were strikes.

Matzek has coughed up eight earned runs over his last three starts (12 innings). He will look to turn things around Tuesday against the Angels in Anaheim.


Padres CF Wil Myers collects three hits Wednesday

(7:17 pm ET) Padres leadoff hitter Wil Myers was the catalyst to help lead the Padres to a 9-1 win over the Giants on Wednesday.

Myers went 3 for 6 with one RBI during the game. He raised his batting average from .261 to .274. The RBI came when Myers tripled off Javier Lopez in the seventh inning to drive in Ian Kennedy.


Diamondbacks' Josh Collmenter collects win No. 3 vs. Rockies

(7:14 pm ET) Diamondbacks pitcher Josh Collmenter was not at his best but still came way with his third win of the season in Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Rockies on Wednesday.

Collmenter (3-3) served up home runs to Justin Morneau, Nick Hundley and Drew Stubbs, which accounted for all of his damage on the afternoon. The right-hander was charged with five earned runs on 10 hits and no walks while striking out five over seven innings of a 13-7 victory. Of his 102 pitches, 63 were strikes.

Collmenter is 3-1 with a 2.40 ERA over his last three starts. He will seek his fourth win of the season Monday at home against Washington.


Rockies 2B Corey Dickerson held out of second game Wednesday

(7:10 pm ET) Rockies second baseman Corey Dickerson was held out of the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Diamondbacks due to a plantar fasciitis flare up, according to MLB.com.

Dickerson was able to the play in the first game of the double header Wednesday and he went 1 for 4 with one run scored. He is now batting .290 on the season.


Padres P Ian Kennedy picks up win in Wednesday's game

(7:00 pm ET) Padres pitcher Ian Kennedy allowed one run on six hits over seven solid innings of work during Wednesday's 9-1 win over the Giants.

The one run Kennedy surrendered came in the third inning when he gave up two hits during the inning. Kennedy (2-1) received his second win in a row for his effort in addition to his second-consecutive quality start. He lowered his ERA from 7.11 to 5.03.

His next expected start is Tuesday at Seattle.


Giants P Chris Heston gives up 11 hits in Wednesday's start

(6:59 pm ET) Giants pitcher Chris Heston surrendered five runs on 11 hits over five innings of work during Wednesday's 9-1 loss to the Padres.

All five of the runs off Heston came in the third inning when he allowed six hits and one walk. He struck out four batters and walked three during the outing. Heston (2-3) received the loss for his effort. His ERA rose from 2.51 to 3.38 ERA.

His next expected start is scheduled for Tuesday at Houston.
