by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(1:00 am ET) Athletics center fielder Billy Burns went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and a solo home run in his team's 5-4 win over the Yankees.

Burns put his team on the board with a fifth-inning homer after the team had fell behind 3-0. The Athletics were able to scrape together four more runs in the next two innings, with Burns scoring the last run in the seventh inning to give his team a two-run lead.

In line for significant playing time with Coco Crisp sidelined for the foreseeable future, Burns has hit .302/.356/.417 with two home runs, three RBI and seven stolen bases in 96 at-bats.

Athletics' Brett Lawrie slugs third homer Thursday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(12:59 am ET) Athletics third baseman Brett Lawrie went 1 for 4 with a two-run home run in his team's 5-4 win over the Yankees.

Lawrie was able to tie the game with his sixth-inning shot off Yankees starter CC Sabathia. It was his first home run in more than a month, as his last homer came on April 28. The third baseman has hit .266/.296/.362 with three home runs, 18 RBI and two stolen bases in 177 at-bats.

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(12:59 am ET) Athletics pitcher Kendall Graveman didn't factor into the decision on Thursday, giving up three earned runs on seven hits and two walks in 5 2/3 innings while striking out four in his team's 5-4 win over the Yankees.

Graveman threw 99 pitches in the outing before being removed with one out to go for a quality start. He surrenderd a solo homer in the second inning, and the Yankees were able to score a second run on a fourth-inning single and a third run on a fifth-inning sacrifice fly.

Graveman owns a 5.79 ERA and 17:13 K:BB ratio in 28 innings. He's on track to face the Tigers in Detroit on Wednesday.

Yankees' CC Sabathia surrenders four runs in loss vs. A's
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(12:59 am ET) Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia took the loss on Thursday, giving up four earned runs on eight hits and one walk in six-plus innings while striking out four in his team's 5-4 defeat against the A's.

Sabathia (2-7) cruised through four scoreless innings before serving up a solo home run in the fifth. He followed that by allowing a two-run homer in the next inning, and was pulled in the seventh after surrendering a single and a walk to open the frame. Two runs would score in the inning, with one being charged to the starter.

Sabathia owns a 5.67 ERA and 51:12 K:BB ratio in 60 1/3 innings. He's slated to face the Mariners in Seattle on Tuesday.

Braves SP Shelby Miller allows one run in Thursday's loss
by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(12:58 am ET) Despite only surrendering one run during Thursday's game against the Giants, Braves pitcher Shelby Miller received a loss for his effort.

Miller (5-2) tossed seven solid innings and allowed one run on five hits during the 7-0 loss. He did not walk a batter and struck out one, which tied his season low. His lone mistake was giving up a home run Brandon Belt in the sixth inning. It was the first home run hit off Miller since April 30.

The quality start was his eighth in a row. Miller has allowed a total of four runs in his five starts. His next expected start is scheduled for Tuesday at Arizona.

Giants SP Chris Heston does not surrender a run Thursday
by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(12:55 am ET) Making just the 10th start of his career, Giants pitcher Chris Heston tossed 7 1/3 scoreless innings during Thursday's 7-0 win over the Braves.

Heston left in the eighth inning after allowing a single to Andrelton Simmons and then getting an infielder’s choice groundout. He struck out six batters and walked one during the outing. He lowered his ERA from 4.33 to 3.82.

Thursday's impressive start for Heston came after back-to-back poor outings. He has six quality starts in his first 10 starts. Heston is 3-0 in his last four starts. His next expected start is scheduled for Tuesday against the Pirates.
