Nationals' Denard Span leaves Monday's game

(9:03 pm ET) Nationals outfielder Denard Span was pulled from Monday's game against the Reds with an apparent injury, reports The Washington Post.

Span left after two innings. He has been battling back spasms recently. Matt den Dekker came into the game.


Mariners release Willie Bloomquist

(8:50 pm ET) The Mariners released Willie Bloomquist on Monday, after the utility man cleared waivers, per the Tacoma News Tribune

Bloomquist was designated for assignment on July 2 and removed from the 40-man roster. He was hitting .159 in 35 games with the Mariners this season. 


Cory Luebke meets with Padres' doctors after arm pain returns

(8:45 pm ET) Padres pitcher Cory Luebke suffered a setback in his recovery from two Tommy John surgeries. 

Luebke experienced discomfort in his elbow after his most recent minor league rehab appearance. 

Luebke returned to San Diego and will meet with the team doctor on Tuesday, per MLB.com


Report: Matt Andriese to get 26th man call-up for Rays

(8:19 pm ET) Rays pitcher Matt Andriese will get called up from Triple-A Durham on Tuesday to start the second game of a doubleheader against Kansas City, per the Tampa Bay Times

The day-night doubleheader resulted from a rainout on Monday. Andriese will get the call-up courtesy of MLB's 26th man rule for twin bills. 

Andriese was scheduled to start for Durham on Tuesday and will be on regular rest. He's 1-0, 2.88 at Durham. 


Cardinals' Marco Gonzalez to start rehab assignment on Friday

(8:13 pm ET) Cardinals pitcher Marco Gonzalez will begin pitching in games on Friday, general manager John Mozeliak said, per MLB.com

Gonzalez has been sidelined with a pectoral injury and shoulder impingement since May. 

Mozeliak said Gonzalez would pitch for Class A Palm Beach and gradually increase his workload to 100 pitches by the end of the month.

National League All Star reserves, pitchers, Final Vote candidates named

(7:44 pm ET) The National League All Star reserves and pitchers were announced on Monday evening, and there was no room for the reigning National League MVP.

Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw was not selected for the All Star team, although he's one of five candidates to take the final spot on the roster in the Final Vote. 

Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant made the team as an injury replacement for the Marlins' Giancarlo Stanton. Bryant is one of two rookies on the team, along with Dodgers outfielder Joc Pederson

The Pirates sent two starting pitchers to the All Star team for the first time since 1960. MLB wins leader Gerrit Cole and fellow Pittsburgh starter A.J. Burnett will both be making their first appearance. 

National League reserves are

Monday's Rays-Royals game postponed due to rain

(7:26 pm ET) Monday's game between the Rays and Royals has been postponed due to inclement weather, the teams announced.

The teams will play a doubleheader Tuesday at Kansas City. Game 1 will feature Matt Moore and Chris Young on the mound. The Rays will call up pitcher Matt Andriese to start Game 2 against  Edinson Volquez, reports the Tampa Bay Times.


Giants sit 2B Joe Panik, SS Brandon Crawford against lefty

(6:59 pm ET) The Giants have benched their starting middle infield Monday. Both second baseman Joe Panik and shortstop Brandon Crawford are out against Mets left-hander Jonathon Niese.

It marks the first absence for Panik since May 21 and third for Crawford since three days later.

Crawford has certainly not struggled against southpaws this season. He is batting .333 (20-for-60). Panik has 19 hits in 68 at-bats against them in 2015.


Mets 1B Lucas Duda not in Monday's lineup

(6:51 pm ET) Mets first baseman Lucas Duda was held out of Monday's lineup at the Giants, the team announced.

He was replaced at first base by Michael Cuddyer, who will bat fifth. Krik Nieuwenhuis received the start in left field. Duda is hitting .138 with two doubles and four RBI in his last 15 games.

The Mets are the underdogs (+135) at San Francisco on Monday.
