Tigers RHP Justin Verlander diagnosed again with muscle strain
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(2:51 pm ET) The second opinion on the injury plaguing Tigers right-hander Justin Verlander is similar to the first - a strained right triceps muscle, MLB Network has reported.

Verlander has yet to pitch this year, but is a possibility to do some throwing on the team's upcoming 10-game road trip. It remains to be seen if the latest diagnosis has an effect on those plans.

Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista: I can DH in Boston
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(2:37 pm ET) A sore shoulder will keep Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista out of the outfield during the series in Boston. But he doesn't believe it will keep him on the bench.

Bautista feels he can serve as a designated hitter, the Toronto Star is reporting. Bautista has slammed more runs at Fenway Park than in any other major league road venue.

If he does take his turns at the plate, he will try to break a weird slump in which he is slugging home runs and nothing else. He has four hits in his last 32 at-bats and all of them left the yard.

Indians' Lonnie Chisenhall not in lineup Monday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(2:33 pm ET) Indians third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall is not in the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Royals.

The Royals are sending lefty Jason Vargas to the mound Monday, so the Indians will start Mike Aviles at third base and bat him second. Designated hitter Ryan Raburn is also in the lineup as usual against lefties, batting fifth.

The Indians are favorites (-145) at home against the Royals Monday.

Mike Napoli out, Daniel Nava in Monday lineup for Red Sox
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(2:30 pm ET) Struggling Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli is set to sit Monday against Toronto. Daniel Nava will play the position instead.

Napoli has been hitting on-and-off lately. He is hitless in four of his last six games, but managed five hits in the other two combined. He still owns a weak slash line of .169/.280/.262 and has just one homer and four RBI all year.

Nava, however, has been worse at the plate in limited duty. He has just one hit in hls last 18 at-bats.

Royals' Paulo Orlando not in lineup Monday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(2:28 pm ET) Royals outfielder Paulo Orlando is not in the starting lineup for Monday's matchup with the Indians.

Orlando has made nine straight starts in right field but will cede the position to Jarrod Dyson, who is batting ninth Monday. Orlando has hit .289/.347/.533 with a league-leading five triples in 45 at-bats.

The Royals are underdogs (+130) in Cleveland Monday.

Report: Astros to promote OF Hoes, demote RHP Wojciechowski
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(2:20 pm ET) The Astros are set to promote outfielder L.J. Hoes to Triple-A Fresno and send right-hander Asher Wojciechowski to the same team, according to MLB.com. The move was made to add a position player for the upcoming series against San Diego.

Hoes has been sizzling to start the season with a slash line of .418/.458/.618 and 12 RBI in 55 at-bats. Wojciechowski has been battered in four starts with Houston, all of which lasted exactly four innings. He has given up 23 hits in 16 innings and owns a 7.31 ERA.

Royals righty Edinson Volquez drops appeal to suspension
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(1:58 pm ET) One day after giving up five runs in the sixth inning and taking the loss, Royals right-hander Edinson Volquez has done some more giving up. He has dropped his appeal and will begin serving his five-game suspension for his role in the Thursday brawl with the White Sox, per USA Today.

Volquez can no longer make his scheduled start Friday against Detroit, but would be eligible to pitch Saturday.

The good news in regard to Volquez is that four of the runs he allowed Sunday were unearned, leaving his ERA at a still-sparkling 1.91.

Rays C John Jaso moved to 60-day DL
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(1:40 pm ET) The left wrist sprain that Rays catcher John Jaso sustained on Opening Day has not improved enough to bring him back any time soon. He has been placed on the 60-day disabled list, pushing his timetable back for a return to at least early June, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Jaso put just one at-bat in the books before going down.

White Sox dispatch LHP Eric Surkamp to Triple-A Charlotte
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(1:33 pm ET) The White Sox have reported that lefty Eric Surkamp has cleared waivers and placed at Triple-A Charlotte. He had been designated for assignment Sunday.

A back strain has prevented Surkamp from pitching this season. He appeared in a career-high 35 games in 2014.

Dodgers trade LHP Xavier Cedeno to Rays for cash
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(1:21 pm ET) The Dodgers announced Monday they have traded left-handed reliever Xavier Cedeno to the Rays in exchange for cash considerations. It's the second time in six days that Cedeno has been dealt, as he came over to the Dodgers from Washington on April 22.

Cedeno did not appear in a game with the Dodgers and had been designated for assignment by the team. So far this season, he's pitched in five games for the Nationals, with an ERA of 6.00.
