by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(3:48 pm ET) The Astros have optioned young first baseman Jon Singleton to Triple-A Fresno on Friday. The move clears a spot for the recently-acquired Carlos Gomez, who was added to the roster Friday.

The 21-year-old has split the 2015 season between three levels of the Mariners' system. Overall, he's put together a very fine season, slashing .321/.366/.417 with 13 doubles and 20 stolen bases.

Marte has spent most of his time as a shortstop, though he has also seen time at second base and center field this year as well.

Tillman has been pitching much better as of late, going 3-0 with a 1.09 ERA in his last six starts. He has 30 strikeouts and six walks in 41 1/3 innings in that span.

Braves activate SP Williams Perez off DL
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(3:35 pm ET) What was reported is now official - the Braves have activated starting pitcher Williams Perez off the disabled list. He is scheduled to start Friday against Philadelphia.

The rookie has been down since late June with a foot contusion. He returns with a 4-0 record and 2.88 ERA.

Giants 2B Joe Panik (back) rejoins the lineup on Friday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(3:32 pm ET) Giants second baseman Joe Panik has returned to the starting lineup for Friday's series-opener against the Rangers. Panik had missed the last two games due to a stiff back, but it seems he has healed up enough to go on Friday.

He'll bat second in the order as per usual for manager Bruce Bochy.
