Jake Marisnick, Jonathan Villar, Will Harris crack Astros' roster
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(9:33 am ET) Astros outfielder Jake Marisnick, utility man Jonathan Villar and pitcher Will Harris have all been informed they will break camp with the big-league club, according to the Houston Chronicle.

It will be the first time Marisnick has cracked the Opening Day roster. The 24-year-old hit .306/.395/.500 this spring and is a candidate to play regularly at center field.

"It's going to feel like Christmas," Marisnick said.

Villar, 23, batted .209 during his second season in the majors in 2014. This spring, he slashed .256/.356/.436 over 39 at-bats.

"He's made some of the most spectacular plays of the spring, both in the outfield and in the infield," general manager Jeff Luhnow said of Villar. "It's a great story."

Harris, 30, will join Houston's bullpen this season after posting a 4.34 ERA last season with the Diamondbacks. He registered a 2.45 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP and 5:2 K:BB ratio over 11 innings this spring.

Marlins RP Aaron Crow likely headed for Tommy John surgery
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9:25 am ET) Marlins reliever Aaron Crow delivered some bad news Wednesday, as he told reporters he expects to undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery, per The Miami Herald. Although, Crow will seek a second opinion, he is not expecting the outlook to change.

"The last time I pitched was Saturday. I felt fine then, but came in the next day and it was really sore and it was painful to throw," Crow said. "[Surgery is] definitely not what I wanted to hear."

With Crow expected to land on the disabled list, Sam Dyson will likely take his spot in the bullpen.

Crow, who is in his first year with the Marlins following a November trade with the Royals, posted a 2.25 ERA in seven spring appearances. He had nine strikeouts in eight innings.

"It sucks," Crow said. "It kind of makes it worse coming over here and before I even got a chance to help the team out I get hurt and never have an opportunity this year."

Astros send Singleton, Chapman to Triple-A; DFA Alex Presley
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(9:21 am ET) The Astros have optioned first baseman Jon Singleton and left-hander Kevin Chapman down to Triple-A Fresno, and designated outfielder Alex Presley for assignment, according to the Houston Chronicle on Tuesday.

According to MLB.com, the Astros may try to trade Presley if they are unable to keep him. Presley, 29, slashed .212/.316/.333 with three RBI over 33 spring at-bats.

Singleton, 23, made his debut in 2014 and hit .168 over 310 at-bats in his first season in the majors. He hit .213 this spring.

"There are definitely things I need to improve on," Singleton said. "This move was necessary."

Chapman, 27, registered a 4.64 ERA in his second season in the majors last year. This spring, he posted a 2.16 ERA, a 1.44 WHIP and 10:3 K:BB ratio over 8 1/3 innings.

"I just need to just polish up a little bit," Chapman said.

Mets P Jerry Blevins excited about chance with the team
by Dave Peters | CBSSports.com
(12:21 am ET) Mets pitcher Jerry Blevins is excited about his opportunity with the team, report ESPN.

"I see a huge opportunity with this organization," said Blevins, who is eligible for free agency next winter. "They've got a lot of talent and high expectations. I'm here to do my part. ... We have a chance to shock some people in the East. We've got such high talent. I'd put this rotation against anybody's, and this experience."

In eight innings pitched this spring, Blevins has an ERA of 9.00 with 11 strikeouts and two walks. He has given up eight earned runs and four home runs.

Yankees' Masahiro Tanaka doesn't impress scouts
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(3/31/2015) Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka was 1-1 with a 1.74 ERA this spring. More importantly, he remained healthy, despite the partially torn ligament in his elbow.

But scouts contacted by the Daily News weren't impressed with Tanaka's stuff.

"I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt based on what he did last year," one Major League scout said. "But would I be worried based on what I’ve seen lately? Yeah, I’d have to be a little worried. ... He’s either saving himself for the season or he’s protecting that elbow a little bit, because his fastball has been around 89-90 (mph), with no life on it today. Two-seamer or four-seamer, it was flat and hittable."
