Brandon Moss slams walk-off dinger to lead Cardinals to win
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(1:05 am ET) Cardinals newcomer Brandon Moss is finally starting to show why they traded for him. His three-run homer in the ninth to beat Washington was the latest and greatest example.

Moss tatered to center with two on and two out. He has four home runs in his last six games and is on a six-game hitting streak. He was batting just .167 (8-for-48) for St. Lous previously.

Nationals SP Joe Ross walks six in no-decision in St. Louis
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12:50 am ET) When Nationals rookie starter Joe Ross arrived on the mound Tuesday night in St. Louis, he was fresh off dominant efforts in beating Milwaukee and San Diego.

What became obvious is what he already knew - the Cardinals are not the Brewers or Padres.

Ross did not last three innings in a no-decision. He allowed three runs on only one hit, but six walks doomed him to the early exit.

Two of his four free passes in a disastrous third inning in which Ross nearly blew a 4-0 lead came around to score. He even walked in a run.

Padres C Derek Norris leaves Tuesday's game prematurely
by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(12:49 am ET) Padres catcher Derek Derek Norris was forced to exit Tuesday's game after a play at the plate, the team announced.

There was no word on the type of injury Norris suffered. He was 0 for 3 before being replaced by Austin Hedges in the seventh.

Cardinals SP Marco Gonzales clobbered in first 2015 outing
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12:42 am ET) The good news for Cardinals starter Marco Gonzales was that he did not lose Tuesday night against Washington. The bad news was everything else.

Gonzales was mashed in his first start of the season to the tune of four runs on seven hits in 2 2/3 innings. He walked one and whiffed one.

He allowed only a walk and single in the first two innings, then the proverbial roof caved in. Two singles and an Anthony Rendon double scored two runs in the third and Ryan Zimmerman put the cherry on top with a tater two batters later. Two hits after that and he was out of the game.

Gonzales opens the season with a 13.50 ERA.

Mariners RP Tom Wilhelmsen picks up save Tuesday
by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(12:35 am ET) Mariners pitcher Tom Wilhelmsen tossed a perfect ninth inning to close the door on the Astros and earn his seventh save of the season.

Wilhelmsen entered in the ninth with a two-run lead and did not allow a run while striking out one.

Mariners SP Roenis Elias takes no-decision in Tuesday's win
by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(12:32 am ET) Mariners pitcher Roenis Elias did not receive a quality start or a win during Tuesday's 7-5 victory over the Astros.

Elias allowed four runs on five hits over 5 1/3 innings. He also struck out four and walked four. One of his mistakes was giving up a solo home run to Jake Marisnick in the fourth.

Elias is winless in his last five starts.

D-Backs RP Josh Collmenter receives first save of season Tuesday
by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(12:22 am ET) Diamondbacks pitcher Josh Collmenter tossed two scoreless innings to earn his first save of the season during Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Rockies.

Collmenter did not allow a run and only two hits during the appearance. He also struck out one batter.

Tigers RP Bruce Rondon rebounds to snag third save
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12:21 am ET) Brad Ausmus must either have a long leash or he is really desperate to finally find a dependable closer for his Tigers.

Maybe it's both, but he gave another chance Tuesday night in Kansas City to Bruce Rondon, who has been getting clobbered of late. This time, however, he came through with a scoreless ninth to earn his third save. The appearance was marred only by one walk.

Rondon arrived on the mound having allowed six runs on seven hits and four walks over his prevous 4 2/3 innings.

D-Backs SP Rubby De La Rosa earns win Tuesday
by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(12:17 am ET) Diamondbacks pitcher Rubby De La Rosa earned a quality start and his 12th win of the season during Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Rockies.

De La Rosa allowed three runs on six hits over six innings of work. He also struck out three and did not walk a batter. One of his mistakes was giving up a solo home to Paul Goldschmidt in the first inning.

De La Rosa is 6-1 over his last nine outings.

Tigers SP Justin Verlander remains on fire in beating Royals
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12:15 am ET) Tigers rebounding right-hander Justin Verlander put together the worst performance in his last five starts Tuesday night in Kansas City. But that's not saying much - it was still pretty darn good.

Verlander, who was coming off a one-hitter, yielded two earned runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings with one walk and four whiffs. He raised his record to 2-4 in the process. The big blow was a Kendrys Morales home run in the fourth inning.

He has given up a mere three runs over his last 35 2/3 innings to lower his ERA to 3.40 as he continues to show flashes of the Verlander of old.
