Red Sox go with 6-man rotation
(9/22/09) From The Sports Xchange notes: RHP Josh Beckett will have his scheduled start for Tuesday night against the Kansas City Royals pushed back to Wednesday afternoon, and RHP Paul Byrd has been slotted in to take Beckett's spot in the rotation. Sox manager Terry Francona announced on Sunday that he was going to a six-man rotation for at least this week, and the extra pitcher will allow some of his workhorses (Beckett and LHP Jon Lester) to get a little bit more rest before settling into the rotation.
Byrd decent for no decision
(9/17/09) Boston SP Paul Byrd was decent for the second straight start on Wednesday against the Angels, but once again, he failed to earn a winning decision. The Red Sox rallied late but had a deficit most of the way. Byrd allowed three runs on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings. He walked one and had four strikeouts. His ERA is 5.79.
