Preseason Outlook

In 2008, Dye looked like one of the biggest bargains in Fantasy, hitting .292 with 34 home runs. In 2009, he just looked old. He started out well enough, hitting .302 with 20 homers before the All-Star break, but his drop off in the second half was so swift and so severe you can't help but wonder if he hit a wall at age 36. Why do you think so few teams showed interest in him this offseason? His .179 batting average and seven home runs after the break make him a big risk on Draft Day. If Dye falls to the late rounds as a result, you have a potential bargain on your hands -- he has averaged 32.8 home runs over the last five seasons, after all -- but you wouldn't want to draft him as more than your fourth outfielder. A decline seems perfectly reasonable considering his age. (Updated 1/19/10)
