| Corey off DL, outrighted to minors |
| (8/27/08) The Padres optioned rookie right-handed pitcher Josh Banks and right-handed pitcher Bryan Corey to Triple-A Portland on Wednesday. Corey was activated from the 15-day disabled list before being optioned to Portland. Corey went on the disabled list on Aug. 12, retroactive to Aug. 10, with a strained left hamstring. Corey is 1-3 with a 6.23 ERA in 39 relief appearances. Banks is 3-6 with a 4.75 ERA in 17 appearances, including 14 starts with the Padres. Chris R. Young is expected to return to the Padres' rotation in early September. |

| (8/12/08) The San Diego Padres placed right-hander Bryan Corey on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a strained left hamstring. Corey is 1-3 with a 6.23 ERA in 39 appearances with San Diego since being acquired in a trade with Boston in May. The move is retroactive to Sunday. San Diego purchased the contract of infielder Sean Kazmar from Double-A San Antonio to take Corey's spot. |

Bay, Nady homer to back Herrera's first major league win
Yoslan Herrera pitched six shutout innings for his first major league win, and the Pittsburgh Pirates got back-to-back homers from Jason Bay and Xavier Nady in a 9-1 victory over the San Diego Padres on Thursday night.

Miles' walk-off slam helps Cards complete four-game sweep
Aaron Miles' grand slam in the ninth inning, the first game-ending hit of his career, helped the St. Louis Cardinals recover from another blown save by Jason Isringhausen in a 9-5 victory over the San Diego Padres on Sunday that wrapped up a four-game sweep.
