(3/7/14) Athletics right-handed reliever Jesse Chavez continued to work toward securing a roster spot Friday with four innings of one-hit, shutout ball against Arizona. He has yet to yield a run in 8 2/3 innings this spring.
Chavez is coming off a decent 2013 season in which he surrendered 50 hits and struck out 57 1/3 innings and managed a 3.92 ERA.

(1/7/14) The Athletics agreed to a one-year contract with reliever Jesse Chavez, avoiding arbitration. Chavez went 2-4 with a 3.92 ERA in 35 relief appearances for the A's last season.

(12/2/13) The Athletics opted not to let go of nine arbitration-eligible players, as they tendered contracts to them all prior to Monday's deadline. The players are: catcher John Jason, infielders Daric Barton, Brandon Moss and Jed Lowrie, outfielders Josh Reddick and Seth Smith, and pitchers Jerry Blevins, Jesse Chavez and Fernando Rodriguez.
The team has already reached a one-year contract with Rodriguez, though details have not been announced by the team. They will likely continue to negotiate with the other players prior to arbitration hearings.

(8/26/13) Athletics pitcher Brett Anderson is no longer an option to start Thursday's game at Detroit, MLB.com reports. Anderson is likely to be activated in Detroit, but should pitch out of the bullpen for the Tigers.
"We're going to have a tough time starting Brett [Anderson] at this point," manager Bob Melvin said Monday.
Melvin said Bartolo Colon is likely to start Thursday, though he's not ruling out Jesse Chavez as an option if Colon can't go.

(7/7/13) Athletics reliever Jesse Chavez earned his first career save as he pitched the final four innings of Sunday's 10-4 win over the Royals. The right-hander allowed three hits and a walk while striking out four over four shutout innings.
Chavez is 1-2 with a 2.95 ERA over his last 10 appearances (21 1/3 innings). He has 3.16 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP in 16 appearances.
