Chavez getting closer to start: Toronto general manager Alex Anthopoulos said on Wednesday that pitchers Drew Hutchison and Jesse Chavez have moved ahead of Joel Carreno in the pecking order to be the fifth starter going forward, reports the National Post. The Blue Jays need a starter for Saturday at Kansas City and right now that decision is between Hutchison and Chavez, though Carreno could get back in the running before all is said and done. Fantasy Analysis
The Blue Jays seem to have their decision down to two pitchers with Hutchison and Chavez the leaders. The team could also go outside the organization for a solution, according to the GM, though he says that is unlikely. Chavez has gone 1-1 in three starts with a 3.94 ERA with Double-A New Hampshire. He has 18 strikeouts in 16 innings. If he gets the starting nod, Chavez will be considered an AL-only Fantasy option. (Updated 04/18/2012).
