|Pirates ship three to minors|
|by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com|
(3/22/13) The Pirates continued trimming their roster Friday by optioning pitcher Bryan Morris to Triple-A Indianapolis. The team also reassigned infielders Ivan De Jesus and Jared Goedert to its minor-league camp.
Morris, ranked as the No. 14 overall prospect in the Pittsburgh organization by MLB.com, was considered a candidate for a spot in the bullpen but posted a 5.14 ERA over seven games during the spring.
|De Jesus part of Hanrahan swap|
|by Al Melchior | Data Analyst|
(12/26/12) Infielder Ivan De Jesus was one of four players the Red Sox traded to the Pirates on Wednesday, as they acquired reliever Joel Hanrahan and second baseman Brock Holt. The Red Sox also included reliever Mark Melancon, outfielder Jerry Sands and pitching prospect Stolmy Pimentel in the deal. De Jesus appeared in 31 games with the Red Sox and Dodgers in 2012, hitting .220 in 41 at-bats.
2013 Fantasy outlooks: Pittsburgh Pirates
Do the Pirates have enough in their arsenal to put themselves back in the postseason discussion? Al Melchior takes a look at the team's talent in his Fantasy outlook.
|If nothing else, Ivan De Jesus will be fondly remembered by Red Sox fans as the man who helped jettison the contracts of Josh Beckett and Carl Crawford (he came over from the Dodgers in the deadline deal) and then was flipped to bring in Joel Hanrahan (De Jesus went to the Pirates in late December). The Pirates probably offer one of the better scenarios for De Jesus, as their middle infield currentlyfeatures the light-hitting Clint Barmes and the injury-prone Neil Walker. They also traded away Brock Holt in the Hanrahan deal. De Jesus showed he could hit for average in the minors (a career .298 average), but he lacks big power or speed potential to make him attractive in Fantasy. Possibly ticketed for the minors, and a bench player at best, De Jesus has very deep NL-only Fantasy value in 2013. (Updated 1/9/13)|
