| Rays sting Shelley Duncan from roster |
by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com (4/30/13) The Rays designated outfielder Shelley Duncan for assignment Tuesday in order to clear a spot on the active roster for designated hitter, who was activated from the disabled list. Duncan appeared in 20 games for Tampa Bay, mainly as the designated hitter, and produced a meager .182 average with two homers and six RBI.

| Shelley Duncan enjoys playing the Orioles |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (4/17/13) Rays designated hitter Shelley Duncan reached for a pitch low and outside of the strike zone and lifted it into the left-field seats Wednesday night in Baltimore. Duncan homered for the second time this year, both coming against the Orioles.
The DH, who was batting sixth, went 2 for 3 in the game with a walk. The HR was a solo blast coming in the second inning off starter Chris Tillman. He added a single and scored twice. Duncan is batting .258.
Added to the team for the pop in his bat, Duncan has just the two homers as his only extra-base hits after 12 games and 31 at-bats with six RBI and seven strikeouts.

| Shelley Duncan ties game with 3-run homer |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (4/3/13) Rays designated hitter Shelley Duncan got his first start of the 2013 season in Tampa's second game Wednesday against Baltimore. Duncan came up huge for the Rays in this one.
The 33-year-old veteran, who hit fifth for manager Joe Maddon, had one hit in four at-bats, but it was a big one. Duncan mashed a two-out, three-run home run off Luis Ayala in the sixth inning to tie the score at four.
Duncan, who also struck out in the game, helped the Rays show signs of life in a game they would eventually win 8-7 in walk-off fashion. He's batting .200 on the year after going 0 for 1 as a pinch hitter Tuesday.

| Shelley Duncan showing versatility |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (4/1/13) Rays manager Joe Maddon told reporters Monday why he chose to keep Shelley Duncan on the 25-man roster while Luke Scott starts the season on the disabled list.
"Just looking at what we may need, with the right-handed bat versus the left-handed pitcher, the power -- he can put the ball in the gap or in the seats," Maddon said, per MLB.com. "I think he's become a better first baseman also, when you want to give James [Loney] a day off, it's possible. ... There's a lot of things he can do, plus I just think he's really good on the team, too."
