Injury Report
Knee - 60-day DL. Likely out for season (Updated - 5/5/12)
Fantasy Analysis
Gamel lasted just one month in his attempt to meet the high expectations placed on him while taking over for Prince Fielder at first base for the Brewers this season. While he wasn't projected to produce the same power as Fielder, Gamel managed just one home run in 21 games before being sidelined. Fantasy owners should cut ties with Gamel in seasonal formats while seeking healthier alternatives. (Updated 05/21/2012).

05/02/2012 13:56 Mat Gamel has torn ACL, likely out for season
Brewers first baseman Mat Gamel is headed back to Milwaukee to have his knee examined, but Brewers general manager Doug Melvin has already told reporters Gamel has a torn ACL, which almost certainly ends his season.
With the departure of Prince Fielder via free agency, Mat Gamel steps into the starting job at first base for Milwaukee and could be a sleeper in Fantasy. He batted .310 with 28 homers and 96 RBI in 128 games for Triple-A Nashville last season, which by far was his best campaign in the minors. While he has hit just .222 in 85 career games in the majors, the 26-year-old appears to be a late bloomer and should benefit from a potent lineup surrounding him in Milwaukee. He could sit against lefties but Gamel should be in the starting lineup more often than not for the Brewers. He should be taken in all NL-only formats on Draft Day and target Gamel in the late rounds of deeper mixed leagues as well. (Updated 1/25/12)
