| Mat Gamel placed on 60-day DL |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (3/20/13) The Brewers placed first baseman Mat Gamel, who is out for the season with a knee injury, on the 60-day disabled list Wednesday.

| Gamel still out for season |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (2/27/13) The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said the second opinion on Mat Gamel's injured right knee confirmed the original diagnosis. Gamel will need surgery to repair his ACL again and will miss the 2013 season. "He needs to have it done," Roenicke said. "Hes just working out whos going to do it and where. Thats kind of important to him."

| Gamel out for entire 2013 season |
by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com (2/18/13) Milwaukee first baseman Mat Gamel is expected to miss the entire upcoming season after he re-tore his right ACL during workouts over the weekend, MLB.com reports. It's the latest blow for the tough-luck Gamel, who missed the last five months of the 2012 season with the initial ACL tear. An MRI exam Monday revealed the latest injury, but it is not considered career-threatening. The Brewers were already thin at first base as Gamel was projected as the leading candidate to fill in for Corey Hart while he recovered from knee surgery. General manager Doug Melvin said the team will look internally for a replacement -- most likely Hunter Morris -- while also seeking outside options.

| Gamel has setback with knee |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (2/17/13) Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said first baseman Mat Gamel was held out of baseball activities Sunday because he aggravated his surgically repaired right knee Saturday. Roenicke is hoping it will only be a short absence. It wont be full go, well just get him out there and acclimate him to the different things going on, Roenicke said. Its unexpected just because hes gone through this period of time where he really hasnt has any issues with it. But probably not unexpected because it is different once you get on the field and now youre doing different exercises with agility, with fundamentals. Youre doing different things on the knee that youre not doing in a controlled environment.

| Gamel braces for another chance |
by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com (2/16/13) Brewers first baseman Mat Gamel has not been short of opportunities during his dull major-league career. This season is no different as the former top prospect is the leading candidate to replace Corey Hart at first base for the start of the season while Hart recovers from knee surgery. It's a role reversal for Gamel, who tore a knee ligament after just 21 games last year and missed the rest of the season. "I would say I'm pretty close," he told MLB.com about his status. "The more I'm doing, the more confident I'm going to be with everything. I'm just looking at it like I got another opportunity." Gamel did cut short his workout Saturday as the team remains cautious about his recovery, but showed no concern.

| After spending parts of four seasons in Triple-A, Mat Gamel finally got his chance to be a regular for the Brewers in 2012, as he began the year as the team's starting first baseman. He didn't stay in the lineup for long, though, as he tore the ACL in his right knee less than a month into the season. Gamel wound up having season-ending surgery, and eventually, the Brewers found a steady replacement by moving Corey Hart from right field to first base. Hart's season will get off to a late start as he recovers from offseason knee surgery, and it appeared that Gamel would get another chance to start, at least temporarily. It was not meant to be, though, as Gamel will miss all of the 2013 season after tearing his right ACL again. Owners should not bother with Gamel on Draft Day this year in any format.
