Fantasy Analysis
Getz was seeing some decent playing time at second base last season but that was before Johnny Giavotella was called up. The 28-year-old will likely serve as a utility infielder in 2012 so plan on leaving Getz for the deepest of AL-only formats on Draft Day. (Updated 01/16/2012).
01/20/2012 10:32 2012 Fantasy outlooks: Kansas City Royals
Kansas City made progress in 2011, giving some of its top prospects a full shot at the big leagues. As our Al Melchior writes, the Royals might not win the division in 2012, but they can sure help Fantasy owners.
Chris Getz saw the most extensive playing time of his career in 2011 but it did not increase his power numbers. He did not hit a home run for the second straight season and posted 26 RBI in 380 at-bats. While he was able to raise his average from .237 the year before to .255, his slugging percentage rose from just .277 to .287. Heading into 2012, Getz will compete with Johnny Giavotella for the starting job at second base, but the 28-year-old is not the long-term option going forward. Even if he sees some steady playing time for the Royals next season, leave Getz for AL-only formats on Draft Day. (Updated 2/9/12)
