| Eduardo Nunez takes BP |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (5/22/13) Yankees shortstop Eduardo Nunez (rib cage) took batting practice Wednesday, the Journal News reports. Before Wednesday, Nunez had been limited to tee and toss work.
Nunez, who has been out since early May, is likely at least a week from activation.

| Eduardo Nunez at least 10 days away |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (5/20/13) Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Monday infielder Eduardo Nunez (rib cage) is about "10 days away for us to think about (activation)," according to the New York Post. Nunez has been out of action since early May.

| Eduardo Nunez might only miss minimum time |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (5/12/13) Yankees shortstop Eduardo Nunez, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a ribcage injury, is expected to swing a bat later in the week, according to The Journal News. If all goes well, then Nunez could head out for a short rehab assignment.
The Yankees are hopeful Nunez won't miss more than 15 days. He's already been sidelined seven days.

| Eduardo Nunez lands on 15-day DL |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (5/12/13) The Yankees placed shortstop Eduardo Nunez (rib) on the 15-day disabled list Sunday. Nunez has not played since May 5 because of a ribcage injury.
Nunez is batting .200 on the season, but he's was improving prior to his injury, batting .280 (7 for 25) in his last eight games.

| DL stint possible for Eduardo Nunez |
by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com (5/11/13) Yankees shortstop Eduardo Nunez's chances of landing on the disabled list increased Saturday as he missed his fifth consecutive game due to a ribcage injury. Nunez was unable to take batting practice as originally planned after experiencing "a little something" in his ribcage.
"I thought he’d be ready, but he’s not ready, so we'll have to make an evaluation," manager Joe Girardi told ESPN.com on Saturday. "We're going into a doubleheader on Monday and we're going to need some extra infielders. We're going to need another player if he can't go, so we'll see."
|
| For a while there, Eduardo Nunez looked like he'd be starting at DH, but then the Yankees went out and signed Travis Hafner late in the offseason. Still, it's not like Hafner will be playing every day. He'll have to make the DH spot available from time to time so that the Yankees can rest their aging infielders. And whenever that happens, Nunez's versatility makes him the most likely candidate to fill in. Nunez has skill -- he hit .292 last year and can steal 35-40 bases with a full season of at-bats -- and looks to have some real value as a versatile steals specialist (kind of a poor man's Emilio Bonifacio) in 2013. He's a decent pick at a shallow position (shortstop-eligible) in AL-only leagues. (Updated 2/3/13) |
