| Xavier Paul hits pinch-hit homer |
by Jack Moore | CBSSports.com (5/12/13) Reds outfielder Xavier Paul hit his second home run Sunday against Milwaukee.
Paul pinch-hit in the seventh inning and sent a Mike Fiers pitch over the right field fence. Paul's regular playing time may diminish soon with Chris Heisey expected to return this week, but his .276/.391/.431 line is sharp and could warrant him continued at-bats against right-handed pitching.

| Xavier Paul moves forward in starting role |
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com (4/29/13) With Chris Heisey on the disabled list, the Reds are going to rely on Xavier Paul more often.
Paul will bat seventh and play left field for the team Monday. He will face Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright. Donald Lutz has been called up, and could see some time against lefties if manager Dusty Baker is worried about Paul matching up with same-handed pitching.

| Injuries force Xavier Paul into lineup vs. LHP |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (4/28/13) Even though Reds outfielder Xavier Paul is just a career .136 hitter against left-handed pitchers, manager Dusty Baker didn't have much choice but to start him Sunday against Nationals pitcher Ross Detwiler since Chris Heisey (hamstring) and Derrick Robinson (rib) hurt.
"For Paul in spring training, most of his at-bats were against left-handers," Baker said, per MLB.com. "I told him that it was going to come into play some point in time during the course of the season. I didn't have a clue it was going to be now."

| Xavier Paul producing off bench for Reds |
by Ed Gauna | CBSSports.com (4/8/13) Reds outfielder Xavier Paul continued to be productive off the bench Monday against the Cardinals.
He pinch-hit in the eighth inning and drove in a run with a single.
Paul is 4 for 9 (.444) through six games with a homer and six RBI.

| X. Paul swats two-run homer |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (8/18/12) Reds outfielder Xavier Paul played a big role in Saturday's Game 1 win over the Cubs. Starting in left field in the first game of the day-night doubleheader, Paul took Jeff Samardzija deep for a two-run blast in the bottom of the second inning to tie the score at two runs apiece in the eventual 5-3 win. Paul, who hit his first homer of the season, went 1 for 3 with a walk in the game overall. He's batting .333 on the year thus far over a small sample size.
|
| Xavier Paul hit a career-high .314 in 86 at-bats with the Reds in 2012. He also stole four bases and hit five doubles. But he will struggle to find playing time in 2013 and his average will likely dip back down to around the .260 level. Even if he got full-time at-bats, Paul would still be an NL-only play. But as 2013 looks like another year on the bench, Paul can be left undrafted in most formats. (Updated 12/12/12) |
