| Royals organize their 40-man roster |
| (11/23/09) Royals purchased the contracts of infielder Jeff Bianchi, OF Jordan Parraz, OF Jarrod Dyson, C Manuel Pina and RHP Blake Wood, adding them to the 40-man roster and protecting them from the Rule-5 draft. They also outrighted pitcher John Bannister to Triple-A, signed free agent C Vance Wilson and pitcher Juan Abreu to minor deals and placed pitcher Julio Pimentel on waivers. |
| Pimentel won't have elbow surgery |
| (3/25/09) Royals RHP Julio Pimentel has opted against elbow surgery after seeking a second opinion. He was diagnosed as having a fractured bone and ligament damage in the elbow. Pimentel has not yet resumed throwing and there is no timetable when he will return to the mound. |
| Royals cut three from spring camp |
| (3/17/09) The Kansas City Royals optioned RHPs Henry Barrera and Julio Pimentel (elbow) to Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Tuesday. Also, they reassigned RHP Matt Wright to minor league camp. Pimentel will be out at least six weeks with an elbow injury and possibly the season, if surgery is required. The Royals say Pimentel has a non-displaced bone spur fracture in his pitching elbow. The bone spur is close to the ulnar collateral ligament. Manager Trey Hillman says the 23-year-old is waiting for a second opinion on whether he needs surgery. |
