Preseason Outlook

When Reynolds topped his own major-league record by striking out for the 205th time in 2009, he had a reaction as insightful as it was simple: So what? Fantasy owners probably wondered the same thing after the kind of season the all-or-nothing slugger had, finishing with 44 home runs and -- in an even bigger surprise -- 24 stolen bases. He ended the season with a thud, hitting only .187 in September, but he hit at least .260 every other month, showing all those strikeouts didn't lead to as much inconsistency as you might think. For the record -- yes, literally -- he struck out 223 times, virtually guaranteeing he'll never hit .300 and limiting his upside in leagues that heavily penalize strikeouts. Still, he proved the good outweighs the bad with him, emerging as one of the game's elite sluggers, and with a little speed to boot. You could make an argument for him to go in the first round of Rotisserie drafts, but he'll probably slip to the second or third. (Updated 1/11/10)
