Fantasy Analysis
Janish spent most of the last three seasons in the majors but with the emergence of Zack Cozart, he was optioned to the minors after camp. He poses minimal value in Fantasy at this point so continue to ignore the 29-year-old in all formats. (Updated 05/01/2012).
03/05/2012 10:37 Reds camp report: Likes and dislikes
While both unpolished young players and an increasingly rickety Scott Rolen could weigh on the Reds, their deep and healthy rotation, improved bullpen and support from their sluggers could make Cincy a contender.
Paul Janish saw his most extensive playing time in the majors last season but was not much of a contributor with the bat. He hit just .214 with no home runs and 23 RBI in 114 games, with a lowly .262 slugging percentage. Owners had expected more after he hit five homers and 25 RBI in 200 at-bats in 2010, but the 29-year-old was unable to take his game to the next level. Janish lines up as a backup infielder for the Reds heading into this season but he could see some early run at shortstop if Zack Cozart needs more time to recover from his Tommy John surgery. Keep an eye on the situation going forward but plan on ignoring Janish in all but the deepest of NL-only formats on Draft Day. (Updated 1/25/12)
