|Jonathan Herrera gets rare second start |
|by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com|
(6/5/13) Rockies infielder Jonathan Herrera was in the lineup for the second game in a row Wednesday, a rare reward for his three-hit game Tuesday. Herrera has started just 13 games this season, but does have three hits in three of them.
"I had a good game and have an opportunity to be in the game again tonight," Herrera told MLB.com prior to Wednesday's game. "I hope to do my best and help my team. I know it's not going to be like last night every night, but I want to do the little things -- play good defense, put the ball in play."
Herrera is batting .276 on the season, in just 58 at-bats.

(5/8/13) With Troy Tulowitzki sidelined with a groin issue, Rockies infielder Jonathan Herrera made his sixth start at shortstop Tuesday against the Yankees. Herrera collected two hits in the 2-0 win, including smacking his second double of the of year off starter Hiroki Kuroda in the third inning.
He also singled in the seventh and finished 2 for 3 at the plate.
Herrera is batting .286/.318/.381 with two doubles and three RBI over 42 at-bats.
2014 team preview: Boston Red Sox
As we continue our look at each of the 30 teams for the 2014 season, our latest installment is the defending World Series champions: The Boston Red Sox.
|Jonathan Herrera was acquired by the Red Sox in a December trade for Franklin Morales. The 29-year-old played significant time at shortstop and second base last season, while making five appearances at third base and two in the outfield. Assuming the Red Sox don't sign a shortstop, Herrera will likely serve as Xander Bogaerts insurance. If the top prospect doesn't pan out -- or requires a stint in the minors, or is shifted to third base in case something happens to Will Middlebrooks -- Herrera will see some at-bats, and benefit from the increase in playing time in the string lineup. This is AL-only territory; and deep Al-only territory at that. But as long as Herrera enters 2014 as the backup infielder for Boston, he's worth a reserve pick in deeper AL-only formats.
