Fantasy Analysis
Herrera is batting .297 on the year with two homers and four RBI. While he gives the Rockies versatility around the diamond, Herrera doesn't bring a lot to the Fantasy table. Owners should view him as a low-end reserve option in NL-only formats. If he starts to get more at-bats and can produce like he did on Friday, then his stock would go up a bit. (Updated 05/05/2012).

Jonathan Herrera began the 2011 season getting regular starts for the Rockies at second base, but he lost his grip on the job with a poor May performance, from which he did not recover. Now he will be given another shot at the role, though he will have to compete with Chris Nelson, DJ LeMahieu and possibly Eric Young. Also, the Rockies may eventually go the trade route to find their second baseman, but for the time being, Herrera appears to have the best chance of getting the job. Should he become a starter, Herrera has the ability to improve on last season's .313 on-base percentage, but if he doesn't, he brings little else to a Fantasy roster. Should everything fall into place, Herrera is still merely a low-end option for owners in NL-only leagues. (Updated 1/18/12)
