| Chris Carter lifts off vs. Rangers |

(5/13/13) Astros outfielder Chris Carter smacked his ninth home run of the season Sunday afternoon against the Rangers.
Carter took reliever Derek Lowe deep in the eighth inning for a three-run home run. He finished 1 for 3 with a walk, a run scored and three RBI in a 12-7 defeat.
Carter has homered twice in his last five games played. He is hitting .228 with nine homers and 22 RBI in 127 at-bats.

(5/8/13) Astros left fielder Chris Carter followed up a three-run homer Tuesday by hitting his eighth home run of the year in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Angels. He also avoided striking out for the second straight game, the first time this season he's put two consecutive games together with no strikeouts.
Carter has a .212 batting average on the year and has only struck out twice in 13 at-bats over his last five games.

(5/8/13) Astros outfielder Chris Carter mashed his seventh home run in Tuesday's win over the Angels.
In typical Carter fashion, the home run was his only hit and it raised his batting average to .209. However, Carter didn't strike out for only the third time in 32 games. He still owns a league-leading 51 strikeouts.

(5/6/13) Astros slugger Chris Carter is expected to see more time at first base and designated hitter, the Houston Chronicle reports Monday. Carter has mostly played in left field, but that has not been successful.
Carter is batting .207 with six homers and 14 RBI over 111 at-bats. He's 1 for 14 (.071) in 15 May plate appearances with five strikeouts.

(5/1/13) Astros outfielder Chris Carter homered for the sixth time in Tuesday's loss to the Yankees.
Carter has lived up to his billing as a one-dimensional power hitter so far. He's slugging a robust .454 but has just a .227 batting average and .303 on-base percentage. He struck out two more times Tuesday night and has now whiffed in a league-leading 46 of his 97 at-bats.

Jimmy Paredes dropped Russell Martin's bases-loaded fly ball when he collided with second baseman Jake Elmore with two outs in the ninth inning, the second missed catch by a Houston right fielder, and the Pittsburgh Pirates rallied past the Astros 5-4 Friday night.

Two big Dunn HRs help White Sox rout Twins
Adam Dunn homered twice, doubled and drove in five runs, powering the Chicago White Sox past the Minnesota Twins 9-4 on Wednesday.

| As a minor leaguer, Chris Carter showed impressive power, but he was also strikeout-prone. Up until last season, Carter failed to produce during his major league callups with Oakland, as he made too little contact, and he didn't produce the power to make up for it. In 2012, Carter finally started to make good on his potential. His 83 strikeouts in 218 at-bats held his batting average down to .239, but in that limited playing time, he blasted 16 home runs and drove in 39 runs. Carter played well enough that he served as the A's starting first baseman for much of the second half of the season before eventually settling into a platoon with Brandon Moss. Now with the Astros, Carter has a chance to expand his playing time even further, getting opportunities to play at first base, left field and designated hitter. He probably won't get enough at-bats to be relevant in standard mixed leagues, but Carter is worth targeting in any format deeper than that. (Updated 2/5/13) |
