Athletics' Craig Gentry has normal offseason after injury-filled year
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(2/24/15) Athletics outfielder Craig Gentry said Tuesday he was able to have a normal offseason after dealing with multiple injuries during the 2014 season, MLB.com reports.
"I was able to do everything that I normally do with no issues," he said. "Last year was frustrating. It's tough to get into the groove of things and get in a rhythm when you're playing and then you're not playing. Trying to find your way on a new team and then you're hurt all the time, that was definitely the toughest part. Hopefully this year will be better."
Gentry showed up to camp last spring injured after hurting his back on the drive from his offseason home in Dallas. He then broke his hand on a bunt attempt in midseason and suffered a concussion in September that prevented the outfielder from appearing on the team's postseason roster. He was cleared to return at the start of October but the team was unable to make it past the AL Wild Card Game.
Gentry delivered his worst season as a semiregular in 2014 while battling the various injuries, hitting .254/.319/.289 with no home runs and 20 stolen bases in 232 at-bats. He's expected to split time with Sam Fuld in left field this season.
Sam Fuld available Tuesday

|(8/26/14) Athletics outfielder Sam Fuld is available Tuesday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Fuld is dealing with a sore knee. He was not in the team's starting lineup Monday or Tuesday due to the issue. Fuld is hitting .256/.340/.349 over 258 at-bats.
Sam Fuld to play through knee injury

|(8/25/14) Athletics outfielder Sam Fuld thinks he'll be able to play through knee soreness, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Despite that, Fuld is not in the team's starting lineup Monday. He banged his knee against the wall during Sunday's game, but doesn't believe the issue is serious. Fuld was able to do some running and swing a bat prior to Monday's game. His left knee is giving him some issues, but Fuld will try to play through it. Fuld is hitting .256/.340/.349 over 258 at-bats.
Trade does little for Sam Fuld's value
|by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com|
|(8/1/14) The Athletics re-acquired outfielder Sam Fuld at the trade deadline Thursday, and will likely utilize him as part of a platoon in the outfield through the end of the season. He has been a solid contributor for the Twins since the A's cut him earlier in the season, but Fantasy owners have not yet taken notice. Should they?
Fuld is likely to play nearly every time a right-handed pitcher takes the mound against the A's, though he is hitting just .298 against them this season. He brings solid gap power but won't put the ball over the fence too often for you. And though he is a solid base stealer, Fuld isn't really a game-changer in that regard, with 13 in 60 games so far, but just eight in 119 games a year ago.
The A's might be smarter than everyone else in baseball, but it is unlikely they have unearthed a diamond here. Fuld is a solid player, but is unlikely to be much more than low-end AL-only Fantasy contributor in his new home.
