Melvin: Coco Crisp moving to LF; Gentry, Fuld to man CF for A's
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(3/4/15) Athletics manager Bob Melvin announced Wednesday the team has decided to move Coco Crisp from center to left field in an attempt to keep him healthy and off the disabled list. Melvin added Sam Fuld and Craig Gentry will platoon in center field for Oakland.
“By doing this we have a better chance of keeping Coco healthy,’’ Melvin said. “We’ve talked about it and he had some questions. But he’s been taking balls in left field this spring.’’
Crisp has not played more than 136 games in a season since joining Oakland in 2010. Crisp, who played in 126 games in 2014, missed time last season after collisions with outfield walls led to neck pain. Crisp said in early February he was going to try to tone down his "aggressive game" in order to avoid more injuries.

|(3/2/15) Manager Bob Melvin indicated that five players are competing to bat second in the Athletics lineup this season, the Bay Area News Group reports.
Shortstop Ben Zobrist, second baseman Marcus Semien, third baseman Brett Lawrie and outfielders Sam Fuld and Craig Gentry are all in the mix for the second spot in the lineup.
The Athletics opened last season with third baseman Josh Donaldson slotted second, but Donaldson has since been traded to Toronto.
Athletics' Craig Gentry has normal offseason after injury-filled year
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(2/24/15) Athletics outfielder Craig Gentry said Tuesday he was able to have a normal offseason after dealing with multiple injuries during the 2014 season, MLB.com reports.
"I was able to do everything that I normally do with no issues," he said. "Last year was frustrating. It's tough to get into the groove of things and get in a rhythm when you're playing and then you're not playing. Trying to find your way on a new team and then you're hurt all the time, that was definitely the toughest part. Hopefully this year will be better."
Gentry showed up to camp last spring injured after hurting his back on the drive from his offseason home in Dallas. He then broke his hand on a bunt attempt in midseason and suffered a concussion in September that prevented the outfielder from appearing on the team's postseason roster. He was cleared to return at the start of October but the team was unable to make it past the AL Wild Card Game.
Gentry delivered his worst season as a semiregular in 2014 while battling the various injuries, hitting .254/.319/.289 with no home runs and 20 stolen bases in 232 at-bats. He's expected to split time with Sam Fuld in left field this season.
Sam Fuld available Tuesday

|(8/26/14) Athletics outfielder Sam Fuld is available Tuesday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Fuld is dealing with a sore knee. He was not in the team's starting lineup Monday or Tuesday due to the issue. Fuld is hitting .256/.340/.349 over 258 at-bats.
