| Ryan Dempster allows two runs in loss |
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (6/14/13) Red Sox starting pitcher Ryan Dempster gave up just two earned runs on five hits and five walks in 7 2/3 innings Friday against the Orioles while striking out four but came away with his seventh loss of the season.
Dempster has walked 40 batters in 83 1/3 innings this season while posting a 4.21 ERA and 4-7 record. He'll face the Rays at home Wednesday.

| Ryan Dempster moved up to Friday |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (6/11/13) With all the changes to the Boston rotation over the last couple of days, the Red Sox will move Ryan Dempster's next outing up from Saturday to Friday in Baltimore, WEEI.com reports Tuesday.
He will start on four days' rest. Dempster, who is 4-6 on the year with a 4.40 ERA over 13 outings, has gone 64-59 for his career on four days' rest with a 4.30 ERA over 178 starts.

| Ryan Dempster gets 2,000th career K in win |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (6/9/13) Red Sox starter Ryan Dempster grinded through six innings Sunday at home against the Angels. Dempster got a four-run third inning in support and held on for the win.
The Boston veteran improved his record to 4-6 as manager John Farrell was correct in saying before the game that he's put his groin issues behind him. Dempster gave up three earned runs on six hits and two walks over six innings and 110 pitches. His strikeout of Alberto Callaspo in the sixth inning was the 2,000th of his career.
Dempster, who struck out six but was hurt by two homers allowed, now has an ERA of 4.40. He's given up three or fewer earned runs in three straight outings and has won his last two. Finally back on track for Boston, Dempster makes his next scheduled start Saturday at Baltimore.

| Ryan Dempster puts groin issue in past |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (6/9/13) Boston manager John Farrell said Sunday during his pre-game media session that the soreness in the groin of Sunday starter Ryan Dempster from earlier in the season has subsided, WEEI.com reports.
Farrell said Dempster is to the point where he is once again pitching with the same mechanics that brought him so much early success. Dempster has gone at least seven innings in each of his last two starts entering Sunday for the Red Sox.

| Ryan Dempster gets plenty of support |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (6/4/13) Red Sox starter Ryan Dempster got plenty of support Tuesday night at home against the Texas Rangers as Boston scored 17 runs.
Dempster (3-6), who has a 4.39 ERA, allowed three earned runs on five hits and a walk over seven innings. Dempster allowed a two-run homer to Jeff Baker and a solo shot to Nelson Cruz. He struck out six and threw 107 pitches.
Dempster had lost his last four decisions spanning five outings before Tuesday. His next start is Sunday against the Angels.

| Ryan Dempster was well on his way to a career year in 2012 with the Cubs -- 2.25 ERA and 1.04 WHIP through 16 starts -- before being sent to the Rangers in a deadline deal. Dempster went on to post an ugly 5.09 ERA with his new team, but did strike out a batter per inning. Although it's easy to point to the league change as a reason for Dempster's rise in numbers -- and that is significant after his signing with the Red Sox -- it should be noted that he went on the DL in mid-June with a lat strain and produced just a 4.50 ERA from that point forward. So it could have been a result of him still being bothered by the injury. Dempster will be 36 this season, and while he hasn't been the most consistent pitcher over his career, he has put together five nice seasons in a row, with a 3.74 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in that span. A move to Fenway for any other pitcher may be scary, but Dempster's last two stops (Texas and Chicago) were in hitter-friendly parks, as well. Dempster's not quite top-level, but he has been good enough as of late to be taken in the later rounds of most drafts. (Updated 1/2/13) |
